Once In A Lifetime
Judy Garland & Liza Minnelli Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every day, just go along dawn till sundown
Here's a rundown
Every day that comes, comes once in a lifetime

Take each day and gather the rosebuds in it
Fill each minute
Every day that comes, comes once in a lifetime
Think of now, tomorrow is waiting in the wings
Who knows what it brings
While the future waits, the present swings

Day to day, in Brooklyn or China 'cross the bay
Only once comes this particular sky
Only once these precious hours go by
Only once in a lifetime the day comes by
So live, live, live, live today

Think of now, tomorrow is waiting in the wings
Who knows what it brings
While the future waits, the present swings

From day to day, in Brooklyn or China 'cross the bay
Only once comes this particular sky
Only once these precious hours go by

Only once in a lifetime a day comes by
So live, live, live, come on and live today

This song should have millions of views. Despite her heartache, and shortcomings, this one lady, the remarkable Judy Garland, was the finest talent of the 20th century. I know for certain and always pray that she is with the Lord. No one who has brought so much joy, could suffer in death. May the Lord Jesus keep her always. Amen.

Nathaniel, I also pray for our Judy everyday. I pray she is getting the rest and peace with Our Lord that was never in her reach here on Earth. God Bless You for your prayers. Sleep in heavenly peace Dear Judy.

This was great. I get it she wasn't what people were expecting but that voice is so commanding and she's just a doll. Love it.

@jstellamedialv

She sounds so great and looks so healthy. Whatever she was doing in late 1966 was working. I wonder what derailed her? So sad to think, the world's greatest entertainer. She left us with so much and we gave her so little in return. I know she's at peace now.

Judy is absolutely gorgeous here! She is always beautiful, but she looks so healthy and glowing in that magnificent pink gown. There will never be another Judy Garland. I could listen to her sing this song all day. Such a fabulous voice. She was a gift from God but she was gone too soon.

@alfreddubose2904

At the Paladium she sings the lyric "greeeeeat" on the 1 and it was great, of course, but I always wondered what it woulda sounded like had she put it on the two (a typical Garlandesque move). Imagine my sheer joy to hear her do it here. She certainly can end a song better than most people can SING one...LOL

@JudyGarlandstarstruk

JUDY GARLAND never looked prettier than she does on this Hollywood Palace show....Talk about ''Pretty In Pink''.... Judy stepped out on that glowing stage like a Princess ....and effortlessly sang to her heartfelt audience ... bringing the entire house down !

@ginger1961

She was in good voice, and she looked great. At that point in time, she had gained a little bit of weight, which made her look and sound stronger and healthier. A year or so earlier during her tv series (1963-1964), she had lost a lot of weight and was much thinner. Here she looked just wonderful.

@glenconmc

I love this arrangement, very classy and perfect for Judy.
