The band's first two albums, Unstuck in Time (1990) and It's Lonely at the Bottom (1992), were released independently. Then, the band signed a licensing deal with BYO and two albums with this label, Elimination (1994) and 13 Kiddie Favorites (1995), all featuring the same pure punk sound, unsullied by the glam rock that was all the rage in L.A. at the time. BYO also released It's Lonely at the Bottom/Unstuck in Time, a repackaging of their first two albums. Jughead's Revenge parted ways with BYO and signed with Dexter Holland (from The Offspring)'s Nitro Records, then released three more albums with this label, Image Is Everything (1996), Just Joined (1998) and Pearly Gates (1999), before (officially) splitting up in April 2001.
In 2005, Joey Rimicci, Brian Priess and Andy Alverez recruited Bob Oedy for the reunion of Glue Gun. The band is supposedly gearing up for their third studio release, which is due for release sometime in 2007. Currently, members of the most successful line-up of Jughead's Revenge, Rimicci, Preiss and Thornton, are back together under the name Kill Detail and recently posted a new song at Myspace.
Get By
Jughead's Revenge Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's nothing I haven't tried
That choice comes down to me or you
I did what I could to get by
You can't rely on anything
Life has left you dry
It doesn't take a genius
To see what it takes to get by
From that you can't deny
A pope, a cop, or president
I killed what I had to get by
You can't rely on anyone
As they analyze
The fear they put in your head
I did what I could to get by
One thing you can bet on
This world will get you down
one way or the other
I calculate the sound
What they say behind my back
leave me never looking at
The way you have to criticize
For what you kill to have
You can't rely on anything
From that you can't deny
This world's too crazy
We have to kill to get by
We have to kill to get by
The lyrics to Jughead's Revenge's song "Get By" speak to the struggle of trying to survive and succeed in a world that often feels chaotic, unpredictable, and unfair. The singer acknowledges that there is no easy solution or quick fix for life's challenges and that ultimately, each person must make their own choice about how to navigate the difficulties they face. The lyrics suggest a sense of desperation and resignation, as the singer describes doing "what I could to get by" and admits to having "killed what I had to get by."
Throughout the song, there is a sense of disillusionment with authority figures and institutions, as the singer dismisses the notions of relying on a "pope, a cop, or president." There is also a sense of defiance and rebellion, as the singer asserts that "we have to kill to get by" in a world that is "too crazy." Ultimately, the lyrics paint a bleak picture of a world where survival is a constant struggle, and where one's own determination and perseverance may be the only things that keep them going.
Overall, "Get By" is a song that speaks to the universal experience of facing adversity and struggling to make it through difficult times. It acknowledges the harsh realities of life while also suggesting that there is still hope and a sense of agency in the face of these challenges. The lyrics are thought-provoking and provide a powerful commentary on the state of the world today, making it a song that is both relevant and impactful.
