(Happy Christmas Julian)
So this is Christmas
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas (war is over)
For weak and for strong (if you want it)
The rich and the poor ones (war is over)
The road is so long (now)
And so Happy Christmas (war is over)
For black and for white (if you want it)
For yellow and red ones (war is over)
Let's stop all the fight (now)
A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas (war is over)
And what have we done? (If you want it)
Another year over (war is over)
And a new one just begun (now)
And so Happy Christmas (war is over)
We hope you had fun (if you want it)
The near and the dear ones (war is over)
The old and the young (now)
A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now
Happy Christmas (Happy Christmas)
Happy Christmas (Happy Christmas)
Happy Christmas (Happy Christmas)
Happy Christmas
The song "Happy Xmas" is a Christmas song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released in 1971 as a single by the Plastic Ono Band. The song starts with a specific Christmas greeting to Kyoko and Julian, the latter being Lennon's son with his first wife Cynthia Powell. The lyrics then ask a rhetorical question, "So this is Christmas, and what have you done?" and become reflective about the past year, while also acknowledging the hope and potential of the upcoming year. The song then becomes an appeal for peace, with the lyric "War is over, if you want it" repeated throughout the song. The song is meant to be a Christmas song with an optimistic, yet realistic message of peace.
The message of "Happy Xmas" is clear: to put aside differences and to hope for peace. This is shown in the lyrics, as the song asks for peace between the weak and the strong, the rich and the poor, and the black and white. The song also acknowledges that the road to peace is long, and that stopping the fight is not an immediate process. "Happy Xmas" encourages listeners to work towards peace, not just within themselves, but with those around them as well.

As a kid, this is a great Christmas song.
But as an adult, this is one of the best anti-war songs ever written.

Absolutely. It has been 43 years since John’s murder, but he lives on in all our hearts forever. ❤

Too bad the melody was copied from the song Stewball, recorded by several folk artists.
