His family emigrated to America in 1913 to Chicago, Illinois. He studied piano and composition at the Chicago College of Music, and began playing with the Chicago, Detroit, and St. Louis Symphonies at 12, but his small hands and a childhood injury precluded a career in playing. He began playing in bands, and as the pit piano player for stage shows and burlesque house at 13 (without his parents' knowledge). To impress a girl, at age 21 he wrote his first song, SUNDAY, which became a smash hit with 500,000 copies of sheet music sold.
IN 1932 he changed his name (to avoid confusion with Dr. Julius Stein, who headed the Music Corporation of America) to Jule Styne and formed his own dance band, "Jule Stein and His Society Orchestra. In the mid 30s he moved to New York City to play in bands and work as a vocal coach. He began writing music and collaborating with lyricists such as Sammy Cahn, Frank Loesser, the writing team of Adolph Green and Betty Comden, and Stephen Sondheim for shows such as Bells Are Ringing, The Pajama Game, and Gypsy.
He died September 20, 1994, in New York City.
Let It Snow
Jule Styne Lyrics

But the fire is so delightful
Since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I've brought some corn for poppin'
The lights are turned down low
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate goin' out in the storm
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dyin'
And, my dear, we're still goodbyin'
As long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
He doesn't care if it's ten below
He's just sittin' by the fire's cozy glow
He don't care about the cold and the winds that blow
He just says, "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" (let it snow)
"Ooh wee," goes the storm
Why should he worry when he's nice and warm?
His gal by his side and the lights turned low
He just says, "let it snow, let it snow" (I don't care)
The weather outside is frightful
But that fire is, mmm, delightful
Since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I've brought lots of corn for poppin'
The lights are way down low
So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow (let it snow)
When we finally say goodnight
How I'll hate goin' out in the storm
But if you'll only hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dyin'
And, my dear, we're still goodbyin'
As long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Jule Styne’s “Let It Snow” is a classic winter hit that has been bringing people together for decades. The lyrics describe the harshness of winter weather, but also the warmth and coziness that can be found indoors. The song opens by describing the freezing temperature outside, which is contrasted with the warm and pleasant atmosphere created by the presence of a roaring fire. The lyrics go on to say that since there is no reason to go outside, they might as well embrace the snow and let it keep falling.
As the song progresses, the singer describes how the snow continues to fall and they settle in for the night, getting comfortable and enjoying their time together. The chorus repeats the idea that the snow should be allowed to fall, as the lighting is turned low and they continue to enjoy the warmth of the fire. The lyrics describe the comfort and security that can be found in love and companionship.
Overall, “Let It Snow” is not just a song about the winter weather, but instead a metaphor for the warmth and love that can be found in the company of those we hold dear. It’s a song about finding happiness and joy in the midst of harsh and trying circumstances.
