Outer Space
Julia Marcell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You came here from outer space
And there's nothing we have in common
Is this why we feel so trapped
By the bonds which we have grown

But you knew I think about stars
Yes you knew I think about what's out there
You were curious so was I
Now we're haunted by the knowledge that we share

And all the little lights in life
They're meant to show you way to go
But if you turn them up too bright
They'll blind you
They'll blind you

There are some things that I just
Wouldn't like to know

You came here from outer space
And that's the way I'd like to keep it
Eiderdown in each other's hands
Mud to hide each other's feet in

But if you never say goodbye
Does it mean we'll never part
And if you disappear suddenly
Does it mean that you won't leave
The tiniest trace in my heart? No

And all the little lights in life
They're meant to show you way to go
But if you turn them up too bright
They'll blind you
They'll blind you

There are some things that I just
Wouldn't like to know
And if you are my pal
Yes if you are my pal
Let the moon do the magic
Let the moon do the magic

Is this how you turned so rich
Traveling the galaxy?
Is this how you turned so sad
Learning things you never knew

Is this how our story ends
Carrying this burden on our own?
Separated by the miles and years of light
But could you look me in the eye?

Aware but without much care and
If we get to start all over again
Could you whisper in my ear

There are the little lights in life
They're meant to show way to go
But if you turn them up too bright
They'll blind you
They'll blind you

There are some things that I just
Wouldn't like to know
And if you are my pal
Yes if you are my pal
Let the moon do the magic
Let the moon do the magic
Let the moon do the magic

After all isn't this where you came from?

Overall Meaning

In "Outer Space," Julia Marcell sings about a relationship that has grown strained because of the differences between the two people involved. She sings that the other person came from outer space and that they have nothing in common. Despite this, they share a curiosity about the universe and have become trapped in their bond. Marcell warns that the "little lights in life" are meant to guide us, but if we become too fixated on them, they will blind us. This blindness can come in the form of asking too many questions - some things are better off not known.

As the song continues, the singer longs for things to be simpler in the relationship. They do not want to know what the other person may have learned traveling through the galaxy, and they do not want to think about what might happen if the other person suddenly disappears. Yet, there is still a sense of wanting to be close to this person. They ask if, in a new life, the other person would "whisper in my ear."

Overall, "Outer Space" is a song about the challenges that come with relationships where people are fundamentally different from one another. It is about the fear of losing someone, as well as the fear of what one might learn about themselves and others if they ask too many questions.

Jestescie chorzy ludzie. Mistrzowie anglistyki.

MsArtemisiaG

@Millenka79 chyba jednak nie-Flo jest naturalna, podobnie jak Kate Bush czy Tori Amos, a tu czegoś brakuje. tak jakby ktoś ja stworzył, żebysmy mieli swoja polska śpiewającą dziewczynkę, żyjąca we własnym magicznym świecie, jak Florence.

LukaDrwal

@MsArtemisiaG a moze to Florence udaje Julke
