Frustrated by the lack of support given to solo female artists in her area, Julie set out on her first national tour in 2007, determined to find communities who would embrace her music. It turned out that she had no problem finding them. In less than a year, Julie went from playing local showcases to being invited to festivals and venues throughout the country, headlining Pride festivals nationwide, and sharing top billing with artists such as Garrison Star, Jen Foster, Andrea Gibson, God-dess and She, Eric Himan, and Angie Evans. With the backing of a rapidly-expanding national (and worldwide) fan base partnered with glowing reviews on her first album, “To Her (The Bittersweet),” Julie is working on many new music projects, including but not limited to a music video for future release, her sophomore album, and a tour of the UK and Australia.
Julie’s captivating stage presence and unique music have won the attention of publications and radio stations around the world. In 2007, Julie was featured in Curvemag.com, the national magazine’s web edition, and also gained favorable review in The Advocate. As of 2008, Julie’s music has been picked up by radio stations around the world: Australia, Britain, Sweden, and Italy are just a few of the countries that now play Julie’s music on a continuous basis. She has also been an in-studio guest on Sirius OutQ’s “Derek and Romaine” show, and featured on numerous podcasts and internet radio stations (Live 365, Indie Limelight, Martha’s Vinyard Showcase, etc). Her music is also the featured sound in the recently released indie film, “The Myth of Color,” which was featured at the Los Angeles Film Festival. These accomplishments have served to cement Julie’s place within the uppermost ranks of the rising artists in the acoustic music and LGBT music scenes.
Julie is currently working on the completion of her sophomore release and actively touring nationally. For booking information, please contact her agent, Kimberly Barnes of Industrious Music: kimberly.julieschurrbooking@gmail.com.
Karma
Julie Schurr Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Please be fair
Don't take more than your share
Things purchased,
Don't mean much
There's one thing that you just can't touch
Hey karma,
Take everything these two hands have bought
You know,
I ain't got much to lose
But these few things
Please let me choose
CHORUS:
Her Smile
Her laugh
Her by me
Oh lifes past(?)
Her love
Oh just keep her close
Cause of all I've ever had
I love her the most
Yes I, I love her the most
Yes I, I love her the most
VERSE:
Hey karma
When something's right
Try not to lie, try not to fight
Try to do what my parents said
Try my best not to lose my head
Sure I'm gonna fall
But when I do please don't take it all
There's one thing that's precious to me
I just can't lose her
Can't you see that
CHORUS:
Her heart
Her soul
Her voice
They make me whole
Her eyes
Her face
Oh nothing in this whole wide world
Could ever take her place
Cuz I, I, I love her the most
Yes I, I, I love her the most
VERSE:
So please karma
Do be fair
Don't bring a loss that I could not bear
I'll do better
I'll work more
If I'm rich in love
I don't mind being poor
Cuz I, I, I love her the most
Yes I, I, I love her the most
Oh I love her the most
Yes I, I, I love her the most
In the song Karma by Julie Schurr, the singer addresses karma itself, asking it to be fair and take only its fair share. The lyrics suggest that material possessions, such as things purchased, are not significant, as there's one thing that karma can't touch. The chorus speaks of the woman the singer loves and how she is the most important thing in his life, more important than any possession. In the second verse, the singer speaks directly to karma again, asking it to allow him to keep the woman he loves, to not take away something so precious to him. He promises to do better and work more if he needs to, but as long as he has the love of the woman he adores, he doesn't mind being poor.
Overall, the song suggests that true riches come from love, not material possessions. The lyrics show that the singer recognizes the importance of being a good person and doing the right thing, hoping that karma will reward him accordingly. However, even if karma does not treat him kindly, he knows that he has the love of his life and that is what truly matters.
