La Última Copa
Julio Sosa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

y jamás yo la podré olvidar;
yo me emborracho por ella
y ella quién sabe qué hará.
Eche, mozo, más champán,
que todo mi dolor,
bebiendo lo he de ahogar;

Overall Meaning

The song La Última Copa by Julio Sosa talks about a man drowning his sorrows with champagne and celebrating the end of his life. The first verse talks about how he wants the champagne glass to be filled until the brim, as he wants to drown the pain in his heart on this night of merrymaking and joy. He talks about how it's the last celebration of his life, and it's already gone after the one who never appreciated his love. The second verse is about his lover whom he loved and still loves; he says that he can never forget her, and he drinks himself into a stupor every time he thinks about her, but it's unknown what she's doing right now. He wants more champagne to drink, and he says that it's how he will drown all his pain away. He then asks his friends, if they see her, to tell her that his life has gone because of her love.

The song is a powerful portrayal of a man's sorrowful state and his vacant love life. He thinks about his life gone by, the women he loved, and how his love went unrecognized. It highlights how alcohol is a coping mechanism for some people when they can't bear the pain of their heart. It's a melancholic but a relatable and heartfelt song for anyone who has experienced the end of a relationship.
