This was literally the best mainline pokemon game ever to be released. Just the sheer ammount of shit you were able to do both online and offline just soars it above anything else. All the main pokemon objectives are there, the ability to catch every legendary up to that point are there. the music is unmatched. You fight red at the end. Its just so unbelievably well done.

The first game in the series I ever played was Soul Silver, my brother owned it and I played it in secret because he'd kill me if he knew I had it, but heart gold was the first game in the series I ever beat. Love it to death, story is simple enough but the characters are great, johto is home most of my favourite pokémon, this is easily the best soundtrack in the series and has arguably the hardest superboss. Heart Gold was and still is my favourite pokémon game

HeartGold and SoulSilver were both the perfect closing games to Generation IV of Pokemon. Yes, the original Gold and Silver games were awesome, but the remakes are far superior to the originals in every way. They combined both the original Gold and SIlver along with Crystal perfectly, and they even made the two legendary Dragon and Phoenix Pokemon mascots superstars in their own right by treating them as revered gods and even incorporating them into the storyline. They were both fitting closing notes for what was quite an unforgettable Pokemon generation, to be honest. And they were released when I was 17, too, so these Pokemon Core RPGs and Gen IV were both the perfect closers to my often amazing childhood.

I can relate soul silver was my first pokemon game and I denied that the master ball would work as good as professor. Oak said it would so I tried lowering lugia's health like an idiot and Ko'ed it I felt so freaking stupid so I got Entei instead.
