Granite Street Knife Fight
Junction 18 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

these heads are rolling... they see black
watch them smile the dust away
who's upstairs hanging out the window
his girlfriend's leaving him tonight
i know this well... this repeating game
it's neverending..
don't let him drive the car tonight...
he'll never make it home
turn out the light..
we're too far behind
words are exchanged
and we're never the same
confusing matter?..
pray you make it out to the end
he's a clown... a first class sinner..
regrets are slowly building their way
elusive matter?
pray you make it out to the end
this childhood dream is killing me
i know its hard to swallow
but its nice going when its free
when will you answer?
i've got this question aching on my mind..
how can you let these nights remain unsurrendered?
turn out the light.
we're too far behind
it's evident no one here will survive
confusing matter?
pray you make it out in the end
im a clown... a sad fool kisser
this carnival's planned its early death
elusive matter?
pray to make it out in the end
(when exactly is the end?)
and all the laughter you see is not for sale
its virus made no effort
near the fire they feed incessantly
the flame to the inferno
goodnight afternoon..
goodnight morning moon
ill catch your rays another day
they're coming to take me away
i finally killed the light..
im bleeding here tonight

i felt the pain
now may i ride this game again?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Junction 18's "Granite Street Knife Fight" depict a scene of chaos, confusion, and violence. The first lines, "these heads are rolling... they see black," suggest that someone has been hurt or killed. The next line, "watch them smile the dust away," implies that the perpetrators don't seem to care about the consequences of their actions. The identity of one of the people involved in the fight is revealed in the third line, where the singer asks, "who's upstairs hanging out the window?" This person seems to be in the midst of a personal drama, as his girlfriend is leaving him tonight. The singer has seen all of this before; it's a repeating game that never ends.

There is also a sense of urgency in the song, as the singer warns, "don't let him drive the car tonight... he'll never make it home." The situation appears to be spiraling out of control, as words are exchanged and relationships are irreparably damaged. The chorus - "turn out the light.. we're too far behind" - is a plea for someone to intervene, to end the violence and bring a sense of peace.

Towards the end of the song, the singer seems to be reflecting on his own role in the situation: "im a clown... a sad fool kisser / this carnival's planned its early death." He realizes that he has been a part of this destructive cycle, and that it has only led to more pain and suffering. The final lines, "i finally killed the light.. im bleeding here tonight / i felt the pain / now may i ride this game again?" suggest that the singer is both exhausted and addicted to this adrenaline-fueled lifestyle. Despite the dangers and the toll it takes on him, he can't help but be drawn back into the chaos.

Holy fucking shit. FINALLY FOUND THIS SONG HOLY FUCK SHIT. Been looking for literally 10 years for this song.

Every few months I would google "Who is that looking at my window, it's you and it's raining." and "Tell me a lie, tell me a lie, tell me that everythings gonna be fine - we'll be alright if you make it out in the end."

Wow I was so wrong on the lyrics though, no wonder I couldnt find it lmao. Granted, last time I played skateboard tycoon was when I was like 6-7 years old.

Haha yeah that makes sense! The whole soundtrack is great, I agree. It was such a relief to find this track as it was playing in my head off and on for YEARS!

+Swagged Up G This was me just a couple hours ago. I originally got the game from 'Skateboard Park Tycoon' from a box of nutri-grain in 2002/2003 (or whenever it was that they did this) when I was kid and lost it when I moved houses (the disc was probably in bad condition anyway from over-playing it).
I started searching for the song while I was on youtube and somehow started listening to some old punk songs from the 80's, 90's early 2000s until small parts of the song started popping into my head. I then started typing in the only lyrics I thought I could remember properly which were "in the afternoon" and "they're going to take me away" and didn't find anything.
I then remembered it was from a pc game skateboarding game. Since I couldn't remember the name of the game I wasn't 100% sure, so I started googling using words with kellogg's, nutri grain, pc game, skateboarding game. I didn't have much luck cause mainly Tony Hawk games started popping up, which I was sure wasn't. I then saw someone mention the game 'Skateboard Park Tycoon' on a forum called something like "best game I got from a cereal". I wasn't sure, but I was desperate at that point, so I googled it. Since the game didn't come with a proper cover, I wasn't sure if it was the right game at first, until I went on google images and from just 1 screenshot of the gameplay I knew it was the right game.
I then searched for the soundtrack on youtube. I started listening from track 1 and started remembering every single one of those songs like I heard them yesterday. There were 11 songs from the soundtrack, so when I got to song 10, I had yet to hear this song and thought maybe it was from another skateboarding game. I then clicked on song 11 and knew this was the right song straight away.
Listening to this song makes me feel so nostalgic. Granted, the other songs were too, but this one especially as it was my favourite song from the game (don't get me wrong, I like pretty much all songs from this game). Kinda makes me wanna play the game again.
So yeah, just a little story I wanted to share. I found the song on another video but went to one with more views afterwords so that I could maybe share it, and gladly found your comment. It's a long comment, so thanks for reading.
Also, as you can probably tell by now, i'm also an aussie :p
