Face Down
Jungle Rot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

To dig a hole in ground
Fresh soil
To bury you into earth
Shallow grave
You're gonna taste the mud
Face down
You're gonna taste the mud
Dead body
Beneath the soil your body rests
I think it's time to pay last respects
It's way to late to bring back the dead
Your time has come now, you're laid to rest
Now that I rid you from
Living here
Your souls must find a new
Place to live
You're gonna taste the mud
Face down

My plan to kill you, it was success
To mutilate you done with finesse
I know it's sad, but you had to go
Your weak existence was killing us
Lying face down in the mud
Left for dead, left to rot
No chance left for survival
Certain death coming fast
Face down
Beneath the soil your body rests
I think it's time to pay last respects

It's way to late to bring back the dead
Your time has come now, you're laid to rest

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jungle Rot's song Face Down describe a disturbing and brutal act of murder. The singer speaks from the perspective of a killer who has successfully executed his plan to kill someone and bury them face down in a shallow grave. The tone of the lyrics is cold and unfeeling, the killer feeling justified in his actions because he views the victim as a burden on his life. The second verse reveals that the victim is somebody the killer knew and interacted with, but who they felt was not worth keeping around. The lyrics offer no explanation for why the singer felt it was necessary to kill the victim, only that it was done with "finesse." Ultimately, the lyrics suggest a worldview that takes a cold and callous view of human life and the value of other people.

I think Jungle Rot are keeping the early sound alive from the late 80s early 90s very much a "first wave" sound . The vocals are very much how bands had them and the drums too. Very much influenced by hardcore punk and thrash but more bands started to incorporate different vocal styles and more complex and faster riffs even being more intune with grind. To say this isnt DM is idiotic just because a lot of modern death is over the top and trying to be as "extreme" as possible.
