Mystery Train
Junior Parker James Cotton & Pat Hare Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Well, that long black train got my baby and gone

Train, train, comin' 'round the bend
Train, train, comin' 'round the bend
Well, it took my baby, but it never will again
No, not again

Train, train, comin' down, down the line
Train, train, comin' down, down the line
Well, it's bringin' my baby 'cause she's mine, all mine
She's mine, all mine

Train, train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
'Round, 'round the bend
Train, train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
'Round, 'round the bend

Well, it took my baby, but it never will again
Never will again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Junior Parker's song 'Mystery Train' depict a journey on a long train that is carrying the singer's love interest. The train is described as being sixteen coaches long, which is a clear indication of its size and power. The repetition of the phrase 'train, train, comin' 'round the bend' creates a sense of anticipation and drama, as if the singer is waiting for something significant to happen. The lyrics suggest that the train has taken the singer's lover away, but also alludes to the fact that she will return again. There is a sense of sadness in the lyrics, but also a glimmer of hope.

Along with what Jensen said, another song that always had that blistering rock n roll sound (along with a primitive rockabilly sound, on count of the country influence) was Bill Haley's cover of Rock The Joint from 1951. God I love this great music! Haha
