Far Away
Junip (Jose Gonzalez) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Step in front of a runaway train
just to feel alive again
Pushing foward through the night
aching chest and blurry sight

It's all far so far away

Cold wind blows into the skin
can't believe the state your in

Who are you trying to impress
steadily creating a mess

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Junip's song "Far Away" seem to describe someone in a state of emotional turmoil, perhaps struggling with depression or feeling disconnected from their life. The opening lines suggest a desire to escape this numbness, even if it means putting themselves in danger. The imagery of a "runaway train" and "aching chest" creates a sense of urgency and desperation. However, despite this recklessness, the singer still feels distant and disconnected from their experience - "It's all far so far away" - suggesting that their attempts to feel something are not entirely successful.

Later in the song, we see the singer confronting their current situation. The "cold wind" blowing into their skin could represent a sense of vulnerability or exposure. The question "Who are you trying to impress?" seems to suggest that the singer is caught up in trying to meet others' expectations, rather than focusing on their own emotional well-being. The final line, "steadily creating a mess," feels both accusatory and self-critical - the singer may be acknowledging that their own actions are contributing to their unhappiness.

Overall, "Far Away" paints a picture of someone who is struggling to connect with both themselves and the world around them. The mix of reckless abandon and self-recrimination is a poignant reflection of the complex emotions that can come with depression or mental illness.

Still listening here in 2023! Just watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for probably the 10th time. The Junip songs in the film are my favorite.

***** totally agree, seems people need to have an open mind when an actor tries a new genre.

cinematic perfection accompanied by an absolutely amazing soundtrack

While I understand perfectly your opinion, I like how Ben Stiller can freely navigate between utterly appaling movies and utterly mind-blowing movies. I liked him in Zoolander, Dodgeball or Mystery Men, I absolutely loved him in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Go Ben !! Do what you want!! Be crazy!! ;)
