She worked with Joe Henderson, Betty Carter, Kenny Garret, Mingus Dinasty, Jackie McLean, Holly Cole and Bily Higgins. As a leader piano player, she has recorded several CDs, among them "Live at the Village Vanguard", "Cruisin´" and "Fragile".
Onishi´s playing is reminescent of McCoy Tyner. She says she´s been primarily influenced by Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Ornette Coleman. However, by listening to her, one can inequivocally say she has a talent of her own.

Hey Joe, I said where you goin' with that gun in your hand, oh
I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man
Yeah, I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man
Huh! and that ain't cool
Huh hey hoe, I heard you shot your mama down
Hey Joe, I heard you shot your lady down
You shot her down in the ground yeah!
Yeah!
Yes, I did, I shot her
You know I caught her messin' round messin' round town
Huh, yes I did I shot her
You know I caught my old lady messin' 'round town
And I gave her the gun
And I shot her
Alright
Shoot her one more time again baby!
Yeah!
Oh dig it
Oh alright
Hey Joe,
Where you gonna run to now where you gonna go
Hey Joe, I said
Where you gonna run to now where you gonna go
I'm goin' way down south
Way down to Mexico way
Alright
I'm goin' way down south
Way down where I can be free
Ain't no one gonna find me
Ain't no hang-man gonna
He ain't gonna put a rope around me
You better believe it right now
I gotta go now
Hey, Joe
You better run on down
Goodbye everybody
Hey hey Joe
The lyrics for Junko Onishi's rendition of Hey Joe begins with the singer addressing Joe, asking him where he is going with a gun in his hand. Joe responds by saying that he is going to shoot his old lady who he caught cheating on him with another man. The singer expresses her disapproval of this and questions Joe's actions further by asking if he shot his mother down. Joe responds affirmatively, stating that he caught his old lady messing around town and he shot her with the gun he gave her.
The final part of the song sees Junko Onishi questioning Joe's next move and where he plans to flee to. Joe responds by saying that he is going way down south, all the way to Mexico, where he will be free and safe from the law. He then bids goodbye to everyone and leaves. Overall, the song tells the story of a man who is driven to the brink by the infidelity of his partner and is willing to resort to extreme measures to remedy the situation.

Jimi also played a cover. The best cover, but still. Billy Roberts made the original, or collected the original from some unknown folk/country origin.
