The group debuted for TVT Records in 1995 with the single for Unified Rebelution. Their acclaimed position in the 1990s alternative hip-hop movement, alongside artists including Company Flow, Black Star and Kool Keith, was confirmed when the Jurassic 5 EP was released in December 1997.
The EP was later repackaged with additional tracks and released in December 1998 as the band's full-length debut album, entitled Jurassic 5 LP.
The tracks harked back to the old school attitude of New York's Native Tongues Posse, the seminal late 1980s coalition of artists who reaffirmed rap's social agenda, which included De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest. This was evident on the song Concrete Schoolyard ("Let's take it back to the concrete streets/Original beats from real live MCs"), and the album even provided the troupe with a surprise UK Top 40 single when it reached number 35 in November 1998. The other stand-out track, Jayou, was built around a hypnotic flute loop from Pleasure Web's Music Man Part 1 (Music Man Part 1).
In 1999, Jurassic 5 signed to Interscope Records, who re-released the Jurassic 5 EP. This was followed by their second album (their first on a major label), Quality Control.
In 2002, they released their third album, Power In Numbers, which was followed by touring with the newly-revived Lollapalooza festival in the summer of 2003.
Their latest album, Feedback, was released on July 25, 2006.

Yo... uhh
I'm never hesitant to say fuck the president
Catch him at his residence with central intelligence
My government be on some undercover shit
They label me a threat cause I wont be a vet
I detect the unusual suspect the dialectic off set
Hidden plannage in the protocol death threat
Its termination your self determination mind set
They show me no respect
From the moment you set
On the african continent with chains and whips
Bottles and ships, yo apologize bitch
[Akil]
Yea...
I hold the ten comandmants
Bust your bones from the planet
The camera candit
My entourage just landed
"??" hype
Killer code via satellite
Parasite rock the diamond colour gold china white
"Warning"
[Marc 7]
Stand still
Nobody move
There's thunder when he comes
That's bass be on the drums
So fear the school yard cause the rules hard
Those who fool hard stick around get found and beat down
[Akil]
I'm the "??" colapse charisma
Within a impotent polaroid picture
Defy unidentified chemical production fresh, never the less
Reflection of an ugly duckling
"You've never known fear untill you have seen ducky boys"
[Charli2na]
Over the water got ships at your lands border
Vocal brutality got you grippin' your cam-corder
Secret societies solicit this grand order
The stand for conserving the wealth to plan murder
Are these clowns really aware it sounds silly
But play ground dwellers beware the town bully
The unrully force that pillages whole cities
While media justifies and stories are told pretty

The lyrics of "Ducky Boy" by Jurassic 5 discuss topics like government surveillance, systemic oppression, and the impact of imperialism on African nations. The song is a commentary on politics and social injustice, as the members of the group address some of the key issues facing society. The vocals are well-crafted and convey a sense of anger and frustration at the way things are, imbuing the song with a raw and authentic feel.
The first verse, delivered by Zaakir, condemns the president and the government for their allegations of terrorism on innocent people. He expresses his frustration with the way the government labels anyone who disagrees with them as a threat. In the second verse, Akil describes himself as a soldier who follows the ten commandments and believes in justice. He calls out those who act foolishly and warns that they will ultimately pay the price for their actions. Marc 7 delivers the third verse, warning listeners to stay still and prepare for the thunderous sound of the bass. Finally, Charli2na talks about the corruption of wealthy individuals and secret societies who exploit communities for their gain, while the media glorify their actions.
