Father & Farther
Just Jinger Lyrics

Walk the heath and grind their teeth
At each other
Father and father
Walk the heath
The children believe it's about their mother
That the farther they walk
The harder they try
The darker the sky
Becomes
For them
Could the children be disturbed?
Did they stop to think at all?
Father and father
Down the tree
Can't they see
They destroy one another?
Father and father
Sow the seed
So they can grow
Just like their brother
But it's the father who knows that the farther they walk
The harder they try
The darker the sky
Becomes
For them
Have you the strength to hold it in?
Importunate greed, the sin
Oh no, I can't bare to see that look upon their faces
And I know their smiles will disappear in time
Father please, help me ease my aching mind
'Cause I can't bare to know the things that they still see
Brother to brother
For your sons, hold your guns
Not for your mother
Brother and brother
Hide your pride, and shine your love
For one another
But as a father should know that the harder they talk
The harder they cry
The darker their lives become
Oh, in this world
Could the children be disturbed?
Did they stop to think at all?
Oh no, I can't bear to see that look upon their faces
And I know their smiles will disappear in time
Father, father, please help me ease my aching mind
'Cause I can't bear to know the things that they still see
Father and father
Walk the heath and grind their teeth
At each other
Father and father
You should walk the heath
And you should walk in peace
With each other
The lyrics of Just Jinger’s song Father & Farther tell the story of a family with two fathers who are at odds with each other. They walk together on the heath, but only to grow more agitated and angry with each other as they go. The children, who assume the feud is about their mother, become increasingly disturbed by their fathers’ fighting. The song reflects on the destructive nature of their conflict and the toll it takes on everyone.
The song’s narrator watches the turmoil from a distance, feeling helpless to stop the fathers from tearing each other apart. There’s a sense of urgency in the lyrics as the singer pleads with the fathers to find peace with each other for the sake of their family. They know that if the fathers continue down their path of destruction, the children will suffer irreparably.
Overall, the lyrics of Father & Farther are a poignant commentary on the importance of familial harmony and the lasting effects of unresolved conflict.
