DVNO
Justice Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's always the same
Always ashamed storytelling
When I can't come in
To a hopeless troglodyte
But one more time my answer stood
I swear I mean no offense
But you better learn to read
It's all about membership

I spell it for the young and old
Ugly girls and boys
I put you on my list
And make you clap to this
Is it mayhem or just an ego trip?
But only one can win
And soon you'll say "That's him"

D V N O
Four capital letters
Printed in gold
'Cause details make the girls sweat even more
While they're shaking their belts
No need to ask my name to figure out how cool I am

D V N O
Four capital letters
Printed in gold
'Cause details make the girls sweat even more
While they're shaking their belts
No need to ask my name to figure out how cool I am

Can anyone read, anyone feel
That I'm losing my patience?
I just came here to bounce
Ladies all waxed, they all know I'm coming
I'm losing my patience
I just came here to bounce

D V N O
Four capital letters
Printed in gold
'Cause details make the girls sweat even more
While they're shaking their belts
No need to ask my name to figure out how cool I am

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Justice's song DVNO can be interpreted in different ways, depending on the listener's point of view. However, one possible meaning behind the lyrics is that the song is a commentary on the cult of celebrity and the superficiality of modern culture. The first verses describe the power of civilization and its ability to mobilize people through symbols of violence and unity, such as the sound of drums, the sight of guns, and the image of a strong mother. These lines suggest that there is a primal urge in human nature to belong to a group or an ideal, even if it requires sacrifice or violence.

The chorus, on the other hand, seems to be a satire of the obsession with branding and image in contemporary society. The acronym DVNO, which stands for "Divino," is described as "four capital letters printed in gold." This detail is said to make "the girls sweat even more while they're shaking their belts," implying that the mere presence of a cool brand or logo can create a sense of excitement and desire. The repetition of the phrase "Can anyone read, anyone feel / That I'm losing my patience, I just came here to bounce" further emphasizes the theme of impatience and hedonism, as if the singer is too cool and too important to waste time on pleasantries.

Holy fucking shit. This song has been stuck in my head for the last 12 or so years since I watched this video on some random music tv channel like vh1 or MTV (although for some reason I have a vague recollection of having seen it on CN). I seriously thought I imagined the whole damn song but now, so many years after, I got this song recommended out of the blue by the youtube algorithm. Thanks, youtube, thanks google, thanks to the gods of Olympus, you have finally resolved this mystery of mine and now I can finally die in peace.
