Backwoods
Justin_Moore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rifle in a gun rack hanging in the back glass
Buck knife on my belt, ain't no land for sale 'round here
Red clay country mud, sippin' on a cold Bud
Blue tick coon hound you know when I'm found out in the

Backwoods down in the holler
Out in the backwoods, workin' hard for a dollar in the
Backwoods yeah we get it done right
Work hard, play hard, hold my baby tight
Lordy have mercy it's a real good life
In the backwoods, yes sir

Preacher's daughter couldn't get hotter
Floating that river on an inner tube with her, splash
Thirty five's and a lift kit how stuck can you get
Ain't that just my luck where's the chain I'm stuck out in the

Backwoods down in the holler
Out in the backwoods, workin' hard for a dollar in the
Backwoods yeah we get it done right
Work hard, play hard, hold my baby tight
Lordy have mercy it's a real good life
In the backwoods, son

Out in the backwoods down in the holler
Out in the backwoods, workin' hard for a dollar in the
Backwoods yeah we get it done right
Work hard, play hard, hold my baby tight
Lordy have mercy it's a real good life

In the backwoods, down in the holler son
Down in the backwoods

Overall Meaning

The song "Backwoods" by Justin Moore is a celebration of living in rural areas and embracing the laid-back, country lifestyle that many people in America's heartland experience. The opening lines hint at the song's themes, as the singer describes his rifle hanging on the back glass of his truck and the buck knife he wears on his belt. These items are indicative of the hunting and outdoorsmanship that are common in rural areas. The singer then goes on to talk about the mud and beer he enjoys, as well as his blue tick coon hound. All of these elements point towards a life that is simple but also fulfilling.

The second verse of the song continues to explore these themes. The singer references a preacher's daughter who he finds attractive, as well as an experience floating down a river on an inner tube. These are both experiences that are inherently tied to being in the great outdoors and enjoying nature. The singer also mentions his truck and the lift kit he has installed, which adds to the idea that he is living a rugged and adventurous lifestyle. Overall, the song exudes an upbeat, carefree energy that is meant to be infectious.

@Ge0c1de

He is from Poyen.. As far as Arkansas goes, that's about as country as you get, and 99.9% of this state is backwoods, so I am not quite shocked that he sings about it.. Lol

@hunterrenner21

Me and my pops went to haul logs with a buddy and I think our Kenworth’s speakers got annoyed with this song with how much he was playing it 😂

@TheGoodLeftUndone27

The comments on country songs are so much more pleasant than most. Just good old country people. I may live in California now, but I still represent northern Idaho woods. :)
