Their music can be described as guitar-based singer-songwriter rock or folk-rock. It ranges from very delicate and intimate singer-songwriter songs to songs that are stronger, more active and louder. Sam’s smoky, enigmatic voice is the band's best known characteristic. In the seven years between The Great Subconscious Club and Almost Happy the music changed from raw and guitar-based to a more subtle and delicate sound. Sam and Gert write most of the music and lyrics. Most of it is written separately.
Sam mainly tries to express ideas in his songs, and has a hand in writing silly and tongue-in-cheek songs. Gert has one big theme: losing the one you love. While most of the songs are easily accessible and open, some others are strange and incomprehensible. This led Sam to comment: "Listening to the lyrics in the first time, you may find it hard to understand their meaning. When you listen to them a second time you may sense a basic truth in these cryptic words. If you do so, please let me know."
This band appeared in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Doppelgangland) with the song Virgin State of Mind, leading to a boost in popularity.Their most popular song 'Not an addict' can be heard in the movie 'Wild things'.
K's Choice fifth studio album, "Echo Mountain" (after the studios where it was recorded - Echo Mountain Studios in North Carolina) was released on 26 March 2010, with singles "When I Lay Beside You" and "Come Live The Life" being released from the album.

Since I've been able to open up a refrigerator
I am wondering today in the sun on a boat to Dover
Could you freeze me in and defrost me when it's over
Mr. Freeze I feel your chill
As I inhale the urge to kill all my emotions
I ask you please but all you do is make me sneeze
I am wondering today in the sun on a boat to Dover
Whose shadow it is that appears as I bend over
It's Mr. Freeze, I hear no sound
As I focus on the amount of my emotions
I ask you please, take the lead or let me bleed
Mr. Freeze
My temperature is very low now you're here
But you're not welcome any longer
I will release Mr. Freeze
No bangs no yells, merely the sea
Is Mr. Freeze inside of me
Is Mr. Freeze inside of me
Is Mr. Freeze inside of me
I am wondering today in the sun on a boat to Dover
How it comes that I feel so high when I ought to feel lower
The song "Mr. Freeze" by K's Choice is a fascinating portrayal of a person's inner struggles and his desperate attempt to numb his emotions. The lyrics sketch the image of a man who feels so emotionally overwhelmed that he wishes to be frozen and defrosted when everything is over. The singer refers to a certain Mr. Freeze, who is a metaphor for the coping mechanism that he employs to deal with his feelings. He seeks solace in freezing his emotions and dulling his senses, so he doesn't have to face the pain that comes with them.
The lyrics paint a picture of the singer's confusion and his inability to understand the root cause of his troubles. He wonders aloud about the identity of the shadow that he sees when he bends over, and realizes that it is Mr. Freeze, who embodies his inner demons. He hears no sound, focuses on his emotions and begs Mr. Freeze to take the lead or let him bleed. However, Mr. Freeze only makes him sneeze, and he is forced to confront the fact that he can no longer live this way. He tries to release Mr. Freeze, but there are no bangs or yells; he only feels the sea. The song ends with the singer questioning if Mr. Freeze still lingers inside of him, questioning how he feels so high even when he should be feeling low.
