Their music can be described as guitar-based singer-songwriter rock or folk-rock. It ranges from very delicate and intimate singer-songwriter songs to songs that are stronger, more active and louder. Sam’s smoky, enigmatic voice is the band's best known characteristic. In the seven years between The Great Subconscious Club and Almost Happy the music changed from raw and guitar-based to a more subtle and delicate sound. Sam and Gert write most of the music and lyrics. Most of it is written separately.
Sam mainly tries to express ideas in his songs, and has a hand in writing silly and tongue-in-cheek songs. Gert has one big theme: losing the one you love. While most of the songs are easily accessible and open, some others are strange and incomprehensible. This led Sam to comment: "Listening to the lyrics in the first time, you may find it hard to understand their meaning. When you listen to them a second time you may sense a basic truth in these cryptic words. If you do so, please let me know."

Something's Wrong

When you think you're the Messiah something's wrong
When you mistake a plane for Venus something's wrong
When your girlfriend's got a penis
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
When you like music more than life something's wrong
When you start sleeping as you drive something's wrong
When you're favorite drink is thinner, something's wrong
When you're proud to be a sinner,
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
When a canary drives a tractor, something's wrong
When your president's an actor, something's wrong
When your jacket's plagued with dandruff, something's wrong
If you think that this song matters,
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
Something's wrong
The song "Something's Wrong" by K's Choice is a satirical commentary on the absurdities of modern life. The lyrics, although seemingly bizarre and absurd, are actually a critique of society's obsession with materialistic and superficial values. The song highlights the fact that many people are more concerned with their outward appearance and the trappings of success rather than the things that truly matter in life.
The opening lines of the song "When your pubic hair's on fire, something's wrong. When you think you're the Messiah, something's wrong" are a clear indication of the absurdity and exaggeration that the song employs. The lines are a metaphorical representation of people's obsession with themselves and their inflated sense of self-importance. The mention of a girlfriend having a penis and a canary driving a tractor further exemplify this exaggeration.
The song's chorus "Something's wrong, something's wrong" is a clear indication that the song is a warning against such absurdities. The verses talk about how music can become an obsession, driving can become dangerous when one is sleepy, and pride in sinning can be a dangerous mindset. The song also mentions that society's leaders are often merely actors, pretending to be someone they are not. The song concludes with the line "If you think that this song matters, something's wrong," thus underscoring the point that people often attach too much importance to superficial things.
In conclusion, "Something's Wrong" is a satirical commentary on contemporary culture and invites the listener to question their own values and priorities.
