The alias "k-os" is pronounced "chaos" and is an acronym for "Knowledge of Self," although in a later interview he also said that it stands for "Kheaven's Original Sound." His music incorporates a wide variety of music genres including but not limited to rap, funk, rock, and reggae. The lyrics frequently focus on promoting a "positive message" while at times expressing criticism of mainstream hip hop culture's obsession with money, fame and glorification of violence. A musician as well as a producer, k-os has written and produced a large portion of all four of his albums. k-os usually performs with a live band, something that is uncommon in the hip hop genre. He sometimes plays guitar and keyboard both during live performances and in the studio.
k-os received his first musical exposure with the single "Musical Essence," released in 1993. After the release of his second single "Rise Like The Sun" in 1996 he withdrew from the industry because he was dissatisfied with his musical style. He reappeared briefly in 1999 and released his debut album Exit in 2002. The album received positive reviews but sold relatively few copies. He released his second album Joyful Rebellion in 2004, which received platinum status in Canada. Joyful Rebellion received positive reviews, but at times was criticized for speaking extensively on the state of hip hop. k-os's third album, Atlantis: Hymns for Disco, was released in 2006, and his fourth album entitled Yes! was released in April of 2009.
Sunday Morning
K-OS Lyrics

But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
Oh, oh
It's the same thing, back in the cold
People know, people come and go, it bores me, same thing
Seems like I'm trapped in the world where the servants, they serve time
Time waits on no man, so when people fall like me, I
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
Walking down blocks, pictures don't stop, pictures inside my dome
This is not me, I'm just afraid to be here all alone
Hurry up, wait, quit it, don't stop, I'm drowning in the self
This is not me, where is my revolution?
But if you want to own me, I am not concerned
But if you follow me, I know that I can learn
You might be the greatest thing I've ever seen
All I know is music, all, all I've ever known
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
(Let's go)
(Let's go)
(Let's go)
(Let's go)
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday morning, Sunday morning
Everyday is Saturday night
But I can't wait for Sunday
Morning by K-OS is a song that explores the idea of feeling stuck in a monotonous routine and longing for something more. The lyrics suggest that the singer is bored of the daily grind and feels trapped in a world where time moves forward regardless of what he does. He seems to be searching for a revolution, something that will shake him out of his routine and provide him with a new sense of purpose. The chorus "Everyday is Saturday night, but I can't wait for Sunday morning" serves as a metaphor for this idea. While Saturdays are often seen as a time for partying and fun, Sundays are associated with renewal and reflection. The singer seems to be saying that while he is currently living a life of excess and indulgence, what he really wants is something deeper and more meaningful.
The second verse delves deeper into these ideas, with the singer conveying his sense of confusion and disorientation. He talks about feeling like he is drowning in himself and being afraid of being alone. The line "Hurry up, wait, quit it, don't stop" suggests he is restless and looking for a way out of his current state. The final lines of the song suggest that music is the one thing that gives him purpose and meaning and that he is willing to follow it wherever it takes him.
In summary, Sunday Morning is a thoughtful and introspective song that explores themes of routine, monotony, and the search for something deeper and more meaningful. It uses the symbolism of Saturday night and Sunday morning to suggest that while living a life of excess and indulgence may be fun in the moment, what is truly needed is a sense of renewal, reflection, and purpose.
