In a time where music executives try to find the next YouTube sensation with catchy hooks and gimmick dance moves many artists have tried to conform and become clones but K.I. continues to be himself. He moves to excel where his contemporaries have failed.
While being raised in the hollowed out crime laden neighborhoods of Bridgeport, CT K.I.'s music would be influenced by its sights and sounds. He dug deep into hip hop artists such as Styles P and Jay Z taking away a love for telling stories with unbridled rigor seizing every opportunity to put pen to paper. As a teen K.I. found himself with composition notebooks full of rhymes. A childhood friend, DJ Invizible, was just starting to get into the producing game and after witnessing K.I.'s talent a lifelong business partnership and brotherhood was formed. K.I. spent all of his free time writing songs that would lay the groundwork for what his style has evolved into today.
After gaining local notoriety and feeling the need to be heard outside of Connecticut K.I., along with DJ Invizible, formed Port Authority Records. Port Authority signed a P&D deal with independent label Music Unlimited Records. After polishing his sound K.I. released his debut mixtape properly titled "I Want In." to be followed by "Angels & Demons" and "Evolution." With concepts shedding light on the failing music industry and its tired gimmicks the mixtapes put everyone on notice that K.I. was coming to do things his way.
With such a diverse display K.I. is ready to wake up a dormant industry and cement his name into the minds of fans everywhere, but more than that with the success of his debut album "Writing Is My Therapy" and his soon to be released sophomore album "It's Personal" K.I. is betting that hip hop is ready for music with substance once again.

yeah, hey
yeah, once i was a boogie singer
playing in a rock-n-roll band
I never had no problems
(yeah)
burnin down the one night stands
and everything around me
got to start to feel so low
then i just started quickly
(Yes it did)
to disco down and check out the show
ya they were dancin'
and singin'
and movin' 2 the groovin'
and just when
it hit me
somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy
play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down the boogie
and play that funky music till you die
( till you die )
(uh huh, yeah yeah)
I tried to understand this ohh I thought that they were outta there minds,
how could I be so foolish?to not see I was the one behind,
and still I kept on fightin,
oh losin every step of the way, some day I must go back there
(got to go back there)
and check to see if things still the same
and they was dancin and singin and movin to the groovin and just when it hit me,
somebody turned around and shouted play that funky music white boy,
play that funky music right,
play that funky music white boy, lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die
(till you die)
(oooo till you die)
Now first it wasn't easy
Changin rock 'n' roll and minds
And things were gettin shaky
I thought I'd have to leave it behind
but now its so much better
(its so much better)
I'm Funkin out in every way
I'll never lose that feelin
of how i learned my lesson that day
yeah,
they were dancin'
and singin'
and movin' 2 the groovin'
and just when
it hit me
somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy
play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down the boogie
and play that funky music till you die
(till ya die, oooh till ya die)
they shouted play that funky music
(play that funky music)
play that funky music
(got to keep on playin funky music)
play that funky music...
The lyrics to K.I.'s song "Play That 5finga" speaks about a boogie singer who played in a rock-n-roll band without any problems. He would burn down one-night stands and everything around him. However, he began to feel low until he discovered disco music and started to groove to it. The singer realized that people loved the funky beat and hip hop music. Even though he was a white boy, he could play funky music too. The audience shouted at him to "play that funky music white boy," and he did so until he died. He had to change his attitude towards music and learn a valuable lesson about people's likes and dislikes.
The song speaks to the changing times when artists had to adapt to new styles such as funk and disco, even though they were playing rock-n-roll music. The singer had to let go of his preconceived notions of what music should be and embrace the new style of music that people loved. The lyrics also highlight the racial division within the music industry and how a white boy was not expected to play funky music.
