Grow A Pear
KESHA Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Last night I had enough of you, I put on the brakes
And I could tell you took it hard, it was over your face
That you were slippin' and flippin' but here is the sitch
I signed up for a man but you are just a bitch

You should know
That I love you a lot
But I just can't date a dude with a vag

When we fell in love, you made my heart drop
And you had me thinking 'bout you nonstop
That you cried 'bout this and whine about that
When you grow a pear you can call me back

Yeah, I think you're hot, I think you're alright
But you're acting like the chick all the time
You were cool and now you're not, just like that
When you grow a pear you can call me back

When I first met you, panties droppin'
Every time I saw you it was on and
One day you asked if we can just talk and
That's the reason why I'm walkin'
If I am honest, I'm just not hooked on your phonics
I'm not tryna be rude or crude, I just wanted one thing from you
And you got confused

You should know
That I love you a lot
But I just can't date a dude with a vag

When we fell in love, you made my heart drop
And you had me thinking 'bout you nonstop
That you cried 'bout this and whine about that
When you grow a pear you can call me back

Yeah, I think you're hot, I think you're alright
But you're acting like the chick all the time
You were cool and now you're not just like that
When you grow a pear you can call me back
When you grow a pear you can call me back
When you grow a pear you can call me back
Grow a pear, you can call me back
When you grow a pear you can call me back

Oh
Grow a pear you can call me back
And no, I don't want to see your man-gina
When you grow a pear you can call me back

When we fell in love, you made my heart drop
And you had me thinking 'bout you nonstop
That you cried 'bout this and whine about that
When you grow a pear you can call me back

Yeah, I think you're hot, I think you're alright
But you're acting like the chick all the time

You were cool and now you're not, just like that
When you grow a pear you can call me back

Overall Meaning

In Kesha's song "Grow a Pear," the lyrics describe a situation in which the singer has decided to break up with someone who she refers to as a "bitch." The partner is upset by the breakup, and Kesha explains that although she loves them, she can't date someone like them. The person she's breaking up with is described as acting like a chick all the time, whining and crying about things, and confused about what Kesha wanted from their relationship. Kesha tells them that when they "grow a pear" (i.e., become more masculine), they can call her back.

The song could be interpreted as Kesha asserting her own concept of masculinity, which doesn't align with her partner's behavior in the relationship. The lyrics suggest that she expects her partner to be more assertive and tough, rather than emotional or "feminine." At the same time, however, Kesha seems to imply that she is still attracted to her partner and finds them physically appealing. It could be seen as a commentary on toxic masculinity and expectations surrounding gender roles in relationships.

Many people are calling the song sexist and transphobic. I think what they lack is context: the song is about kesha dating a guy with a sexist fragile masculinity and basically an asshole. So to insult him, she uses what hurts him the most, sexist and fragile masculinity insults (β€œyou seem to have a vagina”, β€œyou act like a girl”, β€œyou don't stop crying”, β€œwhen you grow a pair you can call me back” etc. ) to emphasize how idiotic it is for being that way.

@enigma4849

@give me all your attention dude listen to the fucking song she’s clearly not transphobic

@Nothing No one I miss years ago when people didn't shit themselves over A SONG.
It literally costs you nothing to not complain about everything.

@quartexgames9834
