The fifth level boss is based off the America Oudan Ultra Quiz which was a game show where hundreds of people answered questions then those whose got it right went to go on in other countries for the next part of the competition. All the series ended in New York at the Statue of Liberty where three competitors wore hats wear the top of the hat would move up to indicate that you buzzed in to answer. The show was on decades and was an institution in Japan at this point hence why I think it's in it. EDIT: Forgot to add that during any stage when you lost you had to pay your own way home which was brutal.

Didn't get to watch this til now, so stoked! Great video as always, when I got the Gameboy one randomly I was confused at how fun and stuff it was (def the mega man/Disney games vibe), and how I wasn't dying! I never beat it, lol. I really want to get the Famicom one, and I was tempted to get the castlevania collection just for this game 🤣🤣

@NES Friend I came back to re-watch since I just beat this today, but I should have watched this first. I didn't know I could shoot upwards until I figured it out near the end of the game. And when jumping, you can also shoot downwards, but it isn't quite as helpful. I played the official English translation in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection.

I don't think it's actually confirmed anywhere that you play as Alucard. Though there is a hint in that the final boss of this game appears as an optional boss in Symphony of the Night (which stars Alucard), so it's at least a little more than a fan theory.

nice video, quick little review, and informative. also, this is on the Castlevania Anniversary Collection so no Famicom? well, the collection is on various platforms so that's nice. one minor gripe, try turning down the music audio a tad. videos are always good and a decent volume but the outro music for example, is a touch on the loud side. other than that great job!

Mandatory comment that the ghost doesn't actually have a swastika, it's a manji, a symbol for good luck that dates back hundreds of years thst the Nazis basically stole for their propaganda.

On the positive side, I'm so glad this has finally gotten a release outside of Japan with the recent Castlevania Anniversary Collection on modern platforms.
With this, Trials of Mana, the Romancing SaGa games, Fire Emblem and a few others, it's awesome that so many classic titles are finally being localized
