The company was founded by Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam in 2001 under Razor & Tie Entertainment. The albums are composed of "kid-friendly" versions of the latest songs on Top 40 radio and are sung by young children. Each year, Kidz Bop releases 2 volume CDs, as well of 4 "music compilations".
According to Billboard, three Kidz Bop albums were among the top ten children's albums sold in 2010, including both of the top two albums. Kidz Bop 18 was the #1 kids’ album of 2010; Kidz Bop 17 ranked in at #2, and Kidz Bop 16 was #10.
In addition to music, the brand also has a social networking and content sharing website, KidzBop.com.

In KIDZ BOP Kids's song SOS, the main character is expressing her frustration with love songs. She is tired of hearing them and singing them. "So tired of love songs" is repeated multiple times to emphasize her feelings of boredom and irritation. She just wants to go home and get away from the constant reminders of love and relationships.
The character tries to distract herself by going to a party and meeting new people, but even there she is reminded of love when everyone falls in love to the song she is trying to escape from. She is taking shots to numb the feelings but realizes that nothing can make her forget love, hence, she holds on. She sees strangers around her, but they only make her think of her loved one and she goes back to the song that they both used to listen to.
The lines "Hurts like heaven, lost in the sound, Buzzcut season like you're still around, I cannot miss you, and I need you now" suggest that the character has gone through a breakup and the love songs remind her of her ex. She can't forget him/her and misses him/her terribly even though it hurts like heaven. However, the character's frustration with love songs remains constant, and this is the main theme of the song.
