In Due Time
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE (USA) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pacing aimlessly,
With my mind in unrest
Unsure of what may come.
What have I done to bring this down on me?
Helpless to make this undone

All in due time, see the world through different eyes.
All in due time, the shadows will give way to light.

How much more can I give of myself,
As these walls close in on me?
As I slip down in to this despair
(Into this despair),
There is nothing to attain

What victory
(What victory)
When my soul is weak,
(Is weak)
where does my help come from?

All in due time, see the world through different eyes.
I see the world through different eyes.
All in due time, shadows will give way, give way to light.

All that we suffer through leads to determination.
The trials we all go through gives us the strength to carry on.
Something within us burns, desire feeds the will to live.
A reason to believe I will see redemption.

All in due time, see the world through different eyes
I see the world through different eyes
All in due time, the shadows will give way to light.
All in due time.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Killswitch Engage's song "In Due Time" speak to the struggle of finding hope and meaning in times of despair. The singer is lost and without direction, questioning what actions have led to their current state of unrest. However, they hold on to the belief that with time, things will become clearer and the shadows of their troubles will give way to light. The lines "All that we suffer through leads to determination" and "The trials we all go through gives us the strength to carry on" suggest that the hardships we face are not in vain, but rather serve a purpose in making us stronger and more resilient. The singer recognizes the importance of patience, and reminds themselves that everything happens in due time.

The chorus, repeated throughout the song, emphasizes the idea that with time, our perspectives can change and new possibilities can emerge. The phrase "see the world through different eyes" suggests a shift in perception, as we gain new wisdom from our experiences. The song ultimately offers a message of hope, with the repeated refrain of "all in due time" serving as a reminder to trust in the journey and have faith that things will improve.

@Lostranodivergente

Now I'm 36. I've been a fan since a was 20 and always will be. Today I faced the changes i did when I had of my adhd diagnosis last october, so many steps... this song came to my mind this morning thinking of my journey through the trauma of my past. Recently I started to see this world crearly different because I am.

the phrase "only in due time" never had so much meaning as it has now cause it is so true.

Never hoped my life to change, never had a view of thrive but it all has changed that october.

Now I put in the work all I learn from my past but with different eyes and it happened cause I said to myself this phrase ONLY IN DUE TIME.

Thank you Jesse. THANK YOU KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.

LOVE FROM ITALY 💚

I was put in an ensemble group at a music academy I was learning guitar at. We did this song. Immediately as the vocals came in, a good deal of the crowd got up and left.

The rest of the crowd that stayed thoroughly enjoyed the nice break from the various renditions of such classics as "I Love Rock n' Roll" and "Iron Man" that had dominated the last 2 hours. For four minutes, the crowd got to experience what they previously (and probably still) would incorrectly categorize as "Screamo". They would experience what the world of metal music had to offer beyond what they were familiar with from ye olde days.

"Why, what is this? Is this... what metal has become?!" I thought for them. "I am proud. With this newfound fondness of metal music, I shall (maybe) explore this realm I thought had died when Metallica became mainstream."

Some of the best 4 minutes of my life lol.

Adam Dutkiewicz's backing vocals/harmonies/growls are massively underrated in my opinion.

I worked for this band in 2006 for a few weeks in Europe. Loved seeing Josh their guitar tech in this video, he was with them then and I’m sure he’s still with them now. These guys are excellent human beings, super kind and when I turned up at a show years later, Joel made it a point to come and find me to catch up. They deserve every success 🙏
