Oi linda
Bella che fa?
Bonita, bonita que tal?
But belle
Je ne comprend pas français
So you'll have to speak to me
Some other way

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Belle" by Jack Johnson are a simple yet poignant commentary on the limitations of language and communication. The singer is trying to converse with someone in a language that they do not fully understand. Despite their efforts to bridge the gap between them, they ultimately come up short - the "belle" doesn't speak English, and the singer doesn't speak French. This inability to communicate underscores a larger theme of the song - the challenges that arise from cultural and linguistic differences.

The first verse sets the stage for the encounter, as the singer attempts to initiate a conversation with the "belle". However, their limited knowledge of French prevents them from fully understanding what is being said. This creates a sense of frustration and distance between the two characters, which is further amplified by the repetition of the word "belle" throughout the song. On a deeper level, the constant repetition of the word "belle" could also be seen as a commentary on the superficial nature of attraction - the singer is drawn to this person based solely on their physical appearance and the aura of mystery that surrounds them, rather than any substantive qualities.

Overall, "Belle" is a beautifully crafted yet understated song that speaks to the challenges of human connection in a globalized world. It reminds us that even as we strive for greater understanding and empathy, we will always be limited by the barriers of language and culture.

i think it's an important thing to discuss: can you guys think of any instances where you've forgiven a youtuber and come back to their content? has there ever been a "good" apology that was well received? what makes the difference between an insincere and sincere apology video- how can you tell?

@thebootycat

I like a youtuber that is proactively looking into themselves and their image.
Ethan for example will continue to call himself out for stupid shit he says. He did it just today 😆🤣 still love watching his shows.
It's when a Youtuber has to be told and reminded of their wrongdoings and pryed an apology out of...then I'm already gone, man. ✌

@Mica_Macchiato

I think honest self reflection is most important. Youtubers who just come up with excuses, usually don’t get away with them.

D'Angelo Wallace made a shitty video about a woman who he felt was gatekeeping tattoos but really she wasn't, and when he apologized I felt his apology was truly sincere. He didn't try to place blame elsewhere, didnt delete the video, he just owned it. So I forgave his mistake and continued being a fan.
In the grand scheme of things, what he did was a drop in the bucket compared to others, but how he handled it was an example of how everyone should own their mistakes.

It doesn't really count because the person stopped making content and her career wasn't in jeopardy before the apology, but Jenna Marbles made one of the most believable apologies with her last video because it wasn't being asked for and she actually showed the things she did wrong in the video, fully owning up to the actions she was apologizing for like very few apologies actually do.

5 years ago, I was sexually assaulted by an ex of mine. I came forward about it, and was met with all sorts of hateful comments calling me a liar, saying I "couldn't be raped" simply because I was a guy. I never even got so much as an apology from my abuser. So to see Sienna Mae's response, how not serious she took the situation, it upsets me to my core.

@rudedrugs

i can relate. i'm a girl but an ex best friend of mine pushed me to do things with her that i didn't want to do. i didn't realize it until rehashing the relationship with a friend i have now. she pointed out how i was coerced and that it didn't equal consent, where i just felt really embarrassed and ashamed about it, like as if i had equal responsibility when i didn't. she isolated me from all my other friends and made me feel like she was the only person who could ever care about me, then used that for her own gratification. it's really disturbing the level of benefit of the doubt we give to female predators.

@MrSaberine

@@rudedrugs I am so sorry this happened to you :(

My situation, I didn't consent, nor was I coerced. I was passed out from sheer exhaustion, and not to get too graphic, but I must have gotten an erection in my sleep, because when I woke up later that night, she was on top of me. I had literally no strength to fight it. She restrained my arms and wouldn't get off of me no matter how hard I struggled and told her no.

@@MrSaberine I am so sorry. It absolutely breaks my heart how little is done for male SA victims, it’s so sick. I hope that you’ve had the time to, and can continue to heal. You’re so strong.
