The group's earliest incarnation included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom left and rejoined the group several times over its history. The trio recorded the band's earliest albums in Germany before Konietzko and Esch moved to the United States, where they found much greater success with seminal industrial record label Wax Trax!. German guitarist Günter Schulz joined in 1990; both he and Esch continued with the band until KMFDM broke up in 1999. Konietzko resurrected KMFDM in 2002 (Esch and Schulz declined to rejoin) on Metropolis Records, and by 2005 he had assembled a consistent line-up that included American singer Lucia Cifarelli, British guitarists Jules Hodgson and Steve White, and British drummer Andy Selway. Konietzko and Cifarelli moved back to Germany in 2007, while the rest of band stayed in the U.S. In addition to these core members, dozens of other musicians have worked with the group across its nineteen studio albums and two dozen singles, with sales totaling in excess of two million records worldwide.
Critics consider KMFDM to be one of the first bands to bring industrial music to mainstream audiences, though Konietzko refers to the band's music as "The Ultra-Heavy Beat". The band incorporates heavy metal guitar riffs, electronic music, samples, and both male and female vocals in its music, which encompasses a variety of styles including industrial rock and electronic body music (EBM). The band is fiercely political, with many of its lyrics taking stands against violence, war, and oppression. KMFDM normally tours at least once after every major release, and band members are known for their accessibility to and interaction with fans, both online and at concerts. Members, singly or working together and with other musicians, have recorded under many other names, primarily Watts' PIG, Konietzko's Excessive Force, and Esch and Schulz's Slick Idiot.

A Hole In The Wall
KMFDM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I have to die I want to suffocate between your sweet breasts
When I have to die I want to be blinded by your brown eyes
When I have to die I want to cut my veins on your lips
I have not yet ruled enough
My hands in chains
The break, the hole in the wall
When I have to die I want to starve in your lap
When I have to die I want to burn in your bed
When I have to die I want to drown in your heat
When I have to die I want to be poisoned by your blood
When I have to die I want to melt away from your kiss
And then when I'm dead, bury me close to your heart
The lyrics to KMFDM's song "Hole in the Wall" are a dark and twisted expression of intense desire and longing. They speak to a desire to be enmeshed in the physicality of someone else, to the point of airlessness and death. The singer yearns to be overwhelmed by their partner's hair, breasts, eyes, and lips, their hands literally in chains, held captive by their own desires. The repetition of the phrase "When I have to die" suggests a sense of inevitability and acceptance of this fate, even as it is brought on by a passion that seems to consume everything in its wake.

4:55 on is just pure awesome. I've been listening to this track since 2008 and it never gets old
James Denner
Gunter Shultz's riffs will, not overshadow, but rival ANY member of this band! Angst, Nihil and Xtort are the best for a reason!!!

Its hard to believe KMFDM never got too popular. They're still making music but you just can't beat the classics.
YEs
They never wanted to be popular really. They could've shot into popularity after Nihil but then they made Xtort deliberately so the masses would ignore them.
Claudia Sofia
My favourite part for decades is played from 4:55 min. Fucking class!!!

Drum machine, synths, and fucking heavy guitars. What's not to like?!?!?
