The group's earliest incarnation included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom left and rejoined the group several times over its history. The trio recorded the band's earliest albums in Germany before Konietzko and Esch moved to the United States, where they found much greater success with seminal industrial record label Wax Trax!. German guitarist Günter Schulz joined in 1990; both he and Esch continued with the band until KMFDM broke up in 1999. Konietzko resurrected KMFDM in 2002 (Esch and Schulz declined to rejoin) on Metropolis Records, and by 2005 he had assembled a consistent line-up that included American singer Lucia Cifarelli, British guitarists Jules Hodgson and Steve White, and British drummer Andy Selway. Konietzko and Cifarelli moved back to Germany in 2007, while the rest of band stayed in the U.S. In addition to these core members, dozens of other musicians have worked with the group across its nineteen studio albums and two dozen singles, with sales totaling in excess of two million records worldwide.
Critics consider KMFDM to be one of the first bands to bring industrial music to mainstream audiences, though Konietzko refers to the band's music as "The Ultra-Heavy Beat". The band incorporates heavy metal guitar riffs, electronic music, samples, and both male and female vocals in its music, which encompasses a variety of styles including industrial rock and electronic body music (EBM). The band is fiercely political, with many of its lyrics taking stands against violence, war, and oppression. KMFDM normally tours at least once after every major release, and band members are known for their accessibility to and interaction with fans, both online and at concerts. Members, singly or working together and with other musicians, have recorded under many other names, primarily Watts' PIG, Konietzko's Excessive Force, and Esch and Schulz's Slick Idiot.

KMFDM Lyrics

ALLENE FÄHRST do IN DIE KLARE NACHT
NUR NOCH FÜNF MINUTEN WÜNSCH ICH MIR
MEINE WAHRE SEHNSUCHT KOMMT MIT DIR
ICH LIEBE DEINEN MOND IN MEINER NACHT
OHNE DEINE SONNE IST KEIN TAG
Do BIST DOCH MEIN STERN AM FIRMAMENT
ICH BIN DEINE TASTE AM KLAVIER
ALLES WAS do WOLLTEST SPIEL'ICH DIR
DEINER SÜSSEN WUNDE SÜSSER SAFT
MACHT MICH SHR BETRUNKEN OHNE SCHNAPS
GETEILTES LEID IST HALBES LEID
DEIN HERZ MEIN HERZ
GETEILTES GLÜIST HALBES GLÜCK
DEIN SCHMERZ IST MEIN SCHMERZ
MEIN LEID
DEIN ELEND
DEIN LEID
MEIN ELEND
The lyrics to KMFDM's song Leid und Elend reflect a longing and dependency on a loved one. The persona in the song expresses their desire to be with their partner for just five more minutes, as their true desires and longings come to life in their presence. The lyrics paint a picture of the persona being completed by their partner, as their moon to their night and their zement to their stone. The persona even claims to be able to fulfill all of their partner's wants and needs, whether it be on the piano or by soothing their "sweet wounds" with affection instead of alcohol.
The shared experiences between the persona and their partner are emphasized through the German phrase "geteiltes Leid ist halbes Leid" which translates to "shared pain is half the pain." The persona claims to not only share in their partner's pain but also their happiness, as their heart is intertwined with theirs. However, despite their unity, the chorus emphasizes the individuality and separateness of their respective sufferings, brutally stating "mein Leid, dein Elend, dein Leid, mein Elend."
Overall, Leid und Elend conveys a sense of vulnerability and co-dependency in love. Despite the persona's willingness to fulfill their partner's every desire and share in their experiences, their individual sufferings remain. It is a poignant and raw reflection on the complexities of relationships.

KMFDM is a fantastic band. One of my favourite bands ever. They never get boring for some reason. Probably because they sound like no other.

Listening to some 'modern' music is like...
Your sorrow, my misery
My sorrow, your misery
My misery, your sorrow
Your misery, my sorrow
Bow to the KMFDM !!!

It’s because the taste of music is directed at the authors credential status. The more famous and wealthy you are, the more brain dead morons follow. Talent for music is a dying breed, nobody would understand that.

It's cuz they the shit on an old game I still love 2021🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
@RobDucharme
One of the sexiest songs KMFDM ever banged out. It's fucking iconic as a single, live, and within this album.

@pilotplayzgames
My father was reminiscing about Test Drive 5 talking about this song and band in it and I am happy I checked it out. Really damn good.
@ManiacKomplex
remember slippin this into my discman for the first time on the bus to to the Australian Land Warfare Centre in 2000 for infantry training. got my signed Skold disc a couple days earlier. i also remember stalkin through the jungle with my AR-15, this album coursing through my brainmeats. never saw combat before I got out, but I imagine KMFDM blasting through my head if I had to face it
@NameNotAlreadyTaken2
I've been hooked on this song since the first time I heard it. It brings back so many memories.
