The group's earliest incarnation included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom left and rejoined the group several times over its history. The trio recorded the band's earliest albums in Germany before Konietzko and Esch moved to the United States, where they found much greater success with seminal industrial record label Wax Trax!. German guitarist Günter Schulz joined in 1990; both he and Esch continued with the band until KMFDM broke up in 1999. Konietzko resurrected KMFDM in 2002 (Esch and Schulz declined to rejoin) on Metropolis Records, and by 2005 he had assembled a consistent line-up that included American singer Lucia Cifarelli, British guitarists Jules Hodgson and Steve White, and British drummer Andy Selway. Konietzko and Cifarelli moved back to Germany in 2007, while the rest of band stayed in the U.S. In addition to these core members, dozens of other musicians have worked with the group across its nineteen studio albums and two dozen singles, with sales totaling in excess of two million records worldwide.
Critics consider KMFDM to be one of the first bands to bring industrial music to mainstream audiences, though Konietzko refers to the band's music as "The Ultra-Heavy Beat". The band incorporates heavy metal guitar riffs, electronic music, samples, and both male and female vocals in its music, which encompasses a variety of styles including industrial rock and electronic body music (EBM). The band is fiercely political, with many of its lyrics taking stands against violence, war, and oppression. KMFDM normally tours at least once after every major release, and band members are known for their accessibility to and interaction with fans, both online and at concerts. Members, singly or working together and with other musicians, have recorded under many other names, primarily Watts' PIG, Konietzko's Excessive Force, and Esch and Schulz's Slick Idiot.

No Peace
KMFDM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Blabbering ??? treason
A place for the people and hands of the fools
How much longer will avarice rule?
We'll get it all, we'll get it all
You have to know that we'll have it all
So, face it the place is a mess
No, no good don't act like you should
No, no don't the choice is too hard
Now it's your turn to fight
Armed and ready, famous and rich
Now it's your turn to fight
The time has come to flip the switch
Now it's your turn to fight
So what do you know and how does it feel?
Now it's your turn to fight
No peace without justice and that's for real.
Reserve, a much better life
Control a harmless obsession
We, ???
You, your days are numbered you bet
The lyrics to KMFDM's song No Peace appear to be about the desperate state of the world, the selfish greed of those in power, and the lack of action taken to change things. The lines "Without rhyme, without reason, blabbering of treason" suggest that the people in charge are not making logical decisions, and are betraying those they are supposed to serve. The chorus, "We'll get it all, we'll get it all, you have to know that we'll have it all," portrays the mindset of the powerful few: they want everything and will stop at nothing to get it.
The line "So, face it the place is a mess" acknowledges the dire state of affairs, but the following line "No, no good don't act like you should" suggests that people are not doing enough to fix it. The repetition of "we're doomed, right from the start" implies that the overall situation is hopeless, and that people need to arm themselves and fight for change. This is reinforced by the lines "Now it's your turn to fight, armed and ready, famous and rich, the time has come to flip the switch."
The song ends with the line "No peace without justice and that's for real." This indicates that true peace cannot be achieved without a fair and just society, and people need to start working towards that goal.
