Written, produced and engineered by themselves, their debut album was released in 2007, receiving glowing reviews and earning a spot on Get Out's top 10 local albums. Later that year, they were named Best Rock Band of Phoenix (Phoenix New Times). Their single In The Music reached No. 9 on South Africa's influential TuksFM top 40.
Currently recording their second album, Kongos is releasing a single a month -- the first two have been: It's a Good Life and Come With Me Now.
"It's rare to be in on the ground floor of something that doesn't sound like anything else you might've heard before ..." (Phoenix New Times)
"Kongos sounds like no other band, not just in the Valley, but in the whole of mainstream rock music ..." (Get Out)
"Kongos are bound to make it big. Their songs are radio-ready and they have a frickin' kickin' accordion!" (Music-Critic.com)

Take Me Back
KONGOS Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can't even taste if my food's alive
I'm watching music that I can't hear
Staring down some invisible fear
And once again the question's asked
I answer "yes" but the moment's passed
I'm guess I'm always tomorrow-bound
Oh oh I remember now
Too far below to turn around
Too bright a light to let go now
Take me back my friend
Take me back on home
Now what I'm saying is nothing new
This repetition's right on cue
A wise man said you're amused to death
Too much talk, too much wasted breath
You're overjoyed and over-fed
Over-sexed, you're almost dead
Gotta work gotta stay awake
God I'm tired can I take a break
Oh oh I remember now
Too far below to turn around
Too bright a light to let go now
Take me back my friend
Take me back on home
Oh oh I remember now
Too far below to turn around
Too bright a light to let go now
Take me back my friend
Take me back on home
Oh oh I remember now
Too far below to turn around
Too bright a light to let go now
Take me back my friend
Take me back on home
The lyrics of "Take Me Back" by KONGOS touch upon themes of memory, nostalgia, and the desire to return home. The first verse describes a sense of disorientation and confusion - the singer can't keep their thoughts straight and feels disconnected from their surroundings. They mention a fear that is "invisible," perhaps inner turmoil or anxiety that they can't quite put into words. The second verse expands on these ideas, referencing the idea of being "amused to death" - so distracted and overstimulated that we lose sight of what truly matters. The singer seems worn out by this constant pressure to keep up and stay awake.
The chorus is the main refrain of the song and expresses a yearning to be taken back home. The singer feels lost or detached from their roots and wants to return to a place of familiarity and comfort. The repetition of "too far below to turn around, too bright a light to let go now" could suggest that the singer feels trapped or stuck in their current situation, but can't help being drawn in by the lure of something new and exciting.
Overall, the lyrics of "Take Me Back" paint a picture of someone who is feeling lost or disconnected from their past and present. They are grappling with the pressures of modern society and the constant need to stay relevant and engaged. However, despite all of this, they still long for the warmth and security of their childhood home.
