Velvet Elvis
Kacey Musgraves Lyrics

The kind of love song that goes on 'til the end of time
All I ever wanted was a little magic
With a good laugh, jet-black sparkle in his eyes
You're my velvet Elvis, I ain't never gonna take you down
Making everybody jealous when they step into my house
Soft to the touch, feels like love, knew it as soon as I felt it
I don't really care 'bout the Mona Lisa
I need a Graceland kind of man who's always on my mind
I wanna show you off every evening
Go out with you in powder blue and tease my hair up high
You're my velvet Elvis, I ain't never gonna take you down
Making everybody jealous when they step into my house
Soft to the touch, feels like love, knew it as soon as I felt it
You're my velvet Elvis, baby
You're my velvet Elvis, baby
I knew it as soon as I felt it
Mm-mm, I knew it as soon as I felt it
Yeah
You're my velvet Elvis, I ain't never gonna take you down
Making everybody jealous when they step into my house
Soft to the touch, feels like love, knew it as soon as I felt it
You're my velvet Elvis, baby
You're my velvet Elvis, baby, yeah
In Kacey Musgraves' song Velvet Elvis, the artist sings about her desire for a classic and magical type of love that will last forever. The artist uses the metaphor of a velvet Elvis to describe this love. An Elvis painting on velvet is a kitschy classic, and with the lyrics, "Soft to the touch, feels like love, knew it as soon as I felt it" the artist expresses that her love is like that of a velvet Elvis painting— a classic and timeless love that is soft to the touch, but also feels real and authentic, much like the love that the artist describes in the song.
The artist admits to not caring about the Mona Lisa, which is a common symbol of high-brow culture, and instead desires a "Graceland kind of man" who is always on her mind. In the song, the artist expresses her desire to show off her love for her partner by going out with them wearing powder blue and teasing her hair up high. These lyrics depict a playful and fun-loving relationship, where the artist is not afraid to express her love in unconventional and quirky ways.
Overall, the song's lyrics convey a message of the artist's desire for a love that is both classic and magical, and it uses the playful metaphor of a velvet Elvis painting to describe this love.
