Friction
Kai Straw Lyrics

Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow
I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else
Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow
I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else
Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow
I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else

I move with a racing mind
And your calm and composed
You're more like the taste of wine
And I'm chasing a high and know that
Baby, I'ma fall down
Will you pick me up?
Will you take my hand
Give me another chance when I fuck up?
Or maybe we're supposed to be enemies
Maybe I'm selfish and conceited
Maybe you're over this and me
Maybe I should go just pack and leave
But then we stare each other down
And I can feel there's something down deep
Then the words tumble out ya
Boy, we're best when we don't speak
Let your body say it

Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow
I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else

We don't talk
Over our dinner, we barely look up
We're like strangers
Who happen to think they are in love, and, yeah, maybe we are
Or maybe we're not
Shit, maybe we're just lookin' up to fill up an empty spot
But I don't know, and I don't care
Cause, baby, I declare
You're everything to me and more
I couldn't live without you, and I know that for sure
Cause maybe we're supposed to be enemies
Maybe that's the spark between us
Maybe, for you and me
Girl, we're best when we don't speak
Let your body say it

Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow
I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else

Yeah, let's your body say it
Alright, oh yeah, let your body say it
Let your body say it
Alright, let your body say it
Yeah, let's your body say it
Alright, oh yeah, let your body say it
Let your body say it
Alright, let your body say it

Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow
I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else
Let's make love
Or make something out
Of blankets
And skin in my mouth
Or make some
Friction somehow

I know my hands are tied, but listen
Let's use something else

Overall Meaning

In Kai Straw's song "Friction", the lyrics suggest a desire for intimacy and connection on a more physical level. The repeated phrase "Let's make love or make something out of blankets and skin in my mouth or make some friction somehow" suggests an urgency for closeness and affection. The lyrics speak to a desire to use physical touch and sensation as a way to communicate and connect with another person, possibly when words fail to do so.

The verse "We don't talk over our dinner, we barely look up, we're like strangers who happen to think they are in love, and yeah, maybe we are, or maybe we're not" hints at a potential lack of communication or deeper intimacy in the relationship. There may be a sense of uncertainty about the feelings and intentions of the other person, and a desire to bridge the gap through physical contact.

Overall, "Friction" is a sensual and evocative song that explores the desire for physical intimacy as a way to connect with another person, while also acknowledging the complexities and uncertainties that come with relationships.

Man, it’s such a trip to see people discovering my music. Thank you so much, sincerely. I’ve received messages asking me what’s the best way I be can be supported, and that would definitely be through my Patreon (link above, I just made an account). It allows you to give me an amount of your choice, monthly, and in return you get to see behind-the-scenes stuff, listen to unreleased music, talk to me directly, collaborate with me, and so on. I’d love to see you there.

Generally, I don’t get much attention from blogs, or playlisters, or whoever else. Some have said that’s because my sound is too different. I’ve been told it’s because my β€˜image’ isn’t right. I’m not enough this, or too much of that, or whatever else. The implication is – I should become something I’m not, and I don’t agree with that. I love making music, and as long as I’m supported by people like you, I can keep doing it. Maybe only a few people will join and it’ll be just us against the music industry, or maybe we’ll grow into a formidable family and who knows, maybe we’ll really have an impact. Maybe people will wonder how we did it. I really don’t know. I do know that I love making music, and with you, I can keep doing it.

For those of you who are discovering me just now, hey – I’d love to meet you. Drop a comment on this post, I’ll reply to everyone. Here’s a little about me. I make all of my music from my apartment. I receive no funding from record labels or whoever. I’ve made music since I was kid, to when I was a window washer, throughout my time working at a nightclub in San Francisco. Waking up at 5AM every day so I could have time to do it. I struggled with alcohol and became sober. I struggled with depression and found my joy. And now I just want to give as much as I can to the world while I’m here, and I don’t mean just music. If you’re struggling, I want to talk to you about it. If you feel the weight of the world, I want to help you lift it. There are too many people who feel too terrible about too many things, and I want whatever we achieve together to be a part of the antidote.

I used to be consumed with self-loathing. I used to focus constantly on everything I wasn’t. I used to imagine how things could have been had I done this or that. I used to wish I was someone else. My goal when drinking was to look into the mirror and not recognize who I was. If you’re that, or you see yourself in what I’ve just described, know that I feel you, and I love you, and you’re not alone. There is tremendous value within you. Your joy is waiting for whenever you’re ready to claim it.

Anyway, I’d love to have you as a part of my community. I hope we can be a light in the dark. If you can’t afford to join on Patreon, that’s totally cool. I love you and appreciate you, regardless. If you do decide to be a part, I’ll see you over there soon. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together.

Hello from one voyager to another. Life is a fascinating thing.

Hello from a fan and a fellow sober person! I've been listening to you on Spotify for a couple years and had no idea you weren't already playing festivals. Thanks for making music that fuels my one-woman living room dance parties!

@sarahibby3315

it personally offends me that this only has 41k views.

@KaiStraw

Haha that's very flattering. Thank you. Show a couple people! I'm totally independent so anyone listening at all is sort of a miracle to me. I'm grateful for the 57k (now) and, ya know, will be grateful for whatever else comes my way.

@winston.pulaaa

It's like the perfect music for the soul. Holy shit.

@KaiStraw
