Kaiser Chiefs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Train me up to be the brightest star
I'm not laughing but I think you are
And I'm not the kind of person
That takes things lightly Cause all I want is a place of my own
With a little patch of garden and a patio
And all I want is a room with a view
With an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you
With an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you

Train me up to be the brightest star
I'm not laughing but I think you are
And I'm not the kind of person
That takes things lightly And all I want is a photograph
Because I can't walk in when having a bath
And all I want is something that's mine
Not to have to buy the toothpaste every time
I don't want to buy the toothpaste every time

With an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you

Train me up to be the brightest star
I'm not laughing but I think you are
And I'm not the kind of person
That takes things lightly

Cause all I want is a place of my own
With a little patch of garden and a patio
And all I want is a room with a view
With an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you

With an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kaiser Chiefs' song "Record Collection" outline the singer's desire for independence and their focus on building a life of their own, free from the constraints of others. They express a longing for a place to call their own, with a garden and a patio, and a room with a view, and they repeat the phrase "with an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you" several times throughout the song, emphasizing their desire to break free from a particular situation or person.

The opening line, "Train me up to be the brightest star" suggests a sense of ambition and the desire to excel, but the following line, "I'm not laughing but I think you are" implies a feeling of being disregarded or underestimated by others. The repetition of the line "And I'm not the kind of person that takes things lightly" reinforces the singer's serious and determined nature, and their refusal to be deterred from achieving their goals.

Overall, "Record Collection" expresses the universal desire for autonomy and the need to break free from the expectations and limitations imposed by others. The repeated refrain of "with an upstairs lounge, I'll be rid of you" indicates a need to sever ties with something or someone, paving the way for a more independent and fulfilling future.

Great song!
Lyrics

I'm a record collection, a dedicated section
I'm a memory of everything you've ever seen
and ever done
I'm a subtle seduction, I am out of corruption
I'm a God enlightened, cleaned up
heightened reenactment of your day
I'm a hidden agenda
Hidden in the credenza
In the darkest corner of the room
inside the room inside your head
Uh-huh, inside your head
Inside your head, inside your head, uh

Sit back and relapse into the world we built for you
Where everything you need is on its way now
Make yourself at home, my extraordinary friend
Where everything is okay in the end

Thinking of a number
Whispered in our gun
Cold hidden, pass it hard
Zero, zero, zero, one
Play us one more number
Give us one more song
Tell us one we've heard before
Zero, zero, zero, more

Architecturally speaking, 50 gram is a weakling
I'm a city planner with a stammer
who cut down New York, New York
From the tip of a rhino, fuck it if I know
I'm the unexpected, twist your endless laundry list
of heinous crimes
Take a vital suggestion, rig an election
I'm the hidden top line of the tune
that's on a loop inside your mind
Uh-huh, inside your head
Inside your head, inside your head, uh

Sit back and relapse into the world we built for you
Where everything you need is on its way now
Make yourself at home, my extraordinary friend
Where everything is okay in the end

Thinking of a number
Whispered in our gun
Cold hidden, pass it hard
Zero, zero, zero, one
Play us one more number
Give us one more song
Tell us one we've heard before
Zero, zero, zero, more

On an endless corridor behind each hidden door
Infinity at one more never ending bidding war
Send us your details, my extraordinary friend
Everything is okay if you

Sit back and relapse into the world we built for you
Where everything you need is on its way now
Make yourself at home, my extraordinary friend
Where everything is okay in the end

Too bad that they are so underrated now... "Stay Together" was amazing in my opinion and this song also is a good teaser of the upcoming album. Great cover art as well!

Entertainment for The Soul

I like their older albums, I thought when they changed with "Stay Together" that was a major disappointment. But I admit this is a great comeback.
