Bris
Kaizers Orchestra Lyrics

Bris bris
Puste meg i nakken
Det blir kaldt i frakken og kroppen skrike
Kom bris bris sett meg fri
Skru på sirenen og gje meg varige mèn

Bris gjer meg roser i kinnet tar vekk vonde minner

For ingen husker gamle Kristopher
Han som redda fem liv for sjøl å bli et krigsoffer

Bris gjer meg roser i kinnet tar vekk vonde minner
Bris du har stengt oss inne Du vinner du vinner

Overall Meaning

The song "Bris" by Kaizers Orchestra tells the story of Kristopher, a former locomotive driver and stand-in for a wealthy ship-owner, who was taken care of by a nun in a monastery after being injured in war. He is now paralyzed and his name is all but forgotten. The lyrics depict his struggle to find freedom from his physical and emotional pain, which is symbolized by the cold wind (Bris) that blows against his neck. He longs to be released from his suffering, asking the wind to sound the siren and inflict permanent damage upon him so that he can finally be free.

The song highlights the power dynamic between the oppressed and the oppressor. Kristopher, a once powerful and respected member of society, has been reduced to an afterthought, his legacy forgotten. The wind, representing the natural forces of the world, appears to have more control over his life than he does. The song also touches on themes of memory and absence, with Kristopher's name being absent from the minds of the people who once knew him.

Overall, "Bris" is a melancholic and haunting ballad that explores the intersections of power, memory, and pain.

For those of you who can't understand what he sings, I recommend look up the lyrics and translate them using for example Google translate (preferably to English). It's not all 100% correct, but it gives a rough outline. The lyrics are very important to the entire atmosphere of the song and they are packed to the brim with meaning. In my opinion, this song is the best melancholic song you can find these days. It really is a masterpiece. It's also said to be the very essence of Kaizers Orchestra.

@MagooTora

This song is so wonderfully sad.

@TheFutski

Breeze, breeze, blowing in my neck, making it cold in my jacket, the body screams "Come breeze, breeze, set me free, turn on the siren and give me lasting damages" Breeeeeeze, makes my cheeks turn red, removes evil memories. Breeeeeeze, you have lock us up, and you win, you win. You win. My name is Kristoffer, ex-engineer(as in trains), son of a ship owner, i was his stand in. I was taken care of by a nun in a monastary, i went to war for my country and returned a casualty of war "Continued"
