Fra sjåfør til passasjer
Kaizers Orchestra Lyrics

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kaizers Orchestra's song Fra sjåfør til passasjer (From Driver to Passenger) are a conversation between two individuals, one of whom is attempting to defend themselves against accusations of fraud and deception. The singer openly admits to possessing a firearm and using it in the "father's cathedral," which implies that they may have committed a serious offense. However, they deny any disloyalty and claim to have worked in the family's spirit for eleven years. The singer addresses the other person as "driver" repeatedly, suggesting that they are in a position of power or authority.

Later on, the singer reveals that they were responsible for Tony Fusciante, who may be the "driver's" brother or associate. The singer mentions using their gun and potentially losing a game of Russian roulette, but it is unclear what happened to Tony. The singer asks the "driver" for clemency, acknowledging that going against the family's interests will result in their demotion from driver to passenger. The final line of the song repeats this demotion and serves as a reminder of the consequences of betraying the family.

Overall, the song seems to be about loyalty, power, and the consequences of violating the rules of a tight-knit community. The use of imagery such as the father's cathedral and Russian roulette adds a sense of danger and gravity to the situation, while the repeated use of the word "Dominique" may be a reference to the character of the same name in The Godfather.

Chauffeur, Chauffeur,
Is it true that I'm being accused
Of fraud and deception
I have used my revolver in your father's Cathedral
But I've never been illoyal

Chauffeur, Chauffeur,
For eleven years, I've worked faithfully for the family's case
So, take my word for it, Chauffeur
For as true as Dominique is my name
All that I did, I did for Him

Because it was me
Dominique
Who was responsible for Tony Fusciante
Your brother, my comrade
The cylinder, it turned
And the gun said 'click'
But in the end in Russian Roulette
There must be loss

Chauffeur, Chauffeur, I beg for a pardon
Though I'm aware of your father's regulations
Because the one who goes against the family's wellbeing
Is degraded from Chauffeur to Passenger

Værsågod

Chauffeur, chauffeur, is it true that I'm being accused of swindle and fraud

I have used my revolver in your father's cathedral

but I've never been disloyal

Chauffeur, chauffeur, for eleven years I've faithfully served the family

So take my word chauffeur, 'cause just as certainly as Dominique is my name

everything I did, I did for him

I, Dominique, was the one who was responsible for Tony Fuciante

your brother, my compadre

The cylinder turned and the pistol said click

but in the end in roulette someone must lose

Chauffeur, chauffeur, I plead to be pardoned

thou I'm aware of your father's regulations

Who acts against the family's good will gets degraded

from chauffeur to passenger

That was a parody, this is the true english lyrics:

I have used my revolver in your father's cathedral

but I've never been disloyal

Chauffeur, chauffeur, for eleven years I've faithfully served the family

Who acts against the family's good will gets degraded

from chauffeur to passenger

@merecorde

It is a pity that Kaizers Orchestra has been focused just in the Norwegian region. I believe that their music, regardless of language has not barriers, it is simply excellent!!! . I love it even though I don't have a clue of the Norwegian language.

@dorias1005

Thank u. I live there.

@MrSlothJunior

The "person singing" is actually the one called Dominique. He says something like "As true as my name is Dominique etc. etc...". As far as I've understood from this(I'm not Norwegian but Danish) he had responsibility for this guy called Tony who died in a game of russian roullette as you can hear in their song Rullett from the same album. He is begging for forgiveness from the mafialike brother of Tony.

@ashadowclown3104

+Cloudbergs And Eyebrows As much as I love EddsWorld, it is really annoying to see this song being flooded with "Tord" comments. I love Tord as much as the next fan but y'all need to chill. One Tord comment is enough.
