The band was formed by brothers Axel and Pål Vindenes, together with school friends Jonas Nielsen and Stian Sævig. All classically trained musicians, the band was formed to play a one-off show at a local youth centre, Ungdomshuset 1880, but after positive response the band continued to play many live shows around Norway. In 2006, the band made their first recording and released the EP Already Your Favourite EP which was produced by Matias Tellez and featured the track "OOO".
Kakkmaddafakka released its first LP Down to Earth on 24 September 2007, which reached number twenty on the VG Topp30 Album list and brought the band nationwide attention in their native Norway, despite a largely negative critical response.
Kakkmaddafakka has performed at numerous festivals including Iceland Airwaves, Montreux Jazz Festival, NXNE, CMJ Music Marathon, Southside Festival, Hurricane Festival, Eurosonic Festival, by:Larm, Area 4 Hove and Melt! Festival in Germany, where they were introduced on stage by prominent Bergen musician and friend Erlend Øye.
In 2008, Kakkmaddafakka was nominated as Best Norwegian Act in the MTV Europe Music Awards, along with Madcon, Ida Maria, Karpe Diem and eventual winners Erik og Kriss.
On 25 February 2011, Kakkmaddafakka released their second album Hest. The album was produced by Erlend Øye and released on the label Bubbles. The first single taken from the album was "Restless".
On 28 June 2013, the band released their third album Six Months Is a Long Time. It was again produced by Erlend Øye and released on Universal Music Germany, featuring the singles "Someone New", "Young", and "Forever Alone".
In early 2014, pianist and founder member Jonas Nielsen left the band and was replaced by Sebastian Emin Kittelsen.
The band released their fourth album titled KMF on 18 March 2016.
In 2017, guitarist and singer Pål Vindenes started a parallel solo project under the name Pish. 2017 also brought on their fifth album, Hus.

Car parked in the shade of the trees
Tried to climb one
Countryside activities
And we're walking
A woman and her dog look away
Nod at the locals
And we're walking
Talk about The Galapagos
Natural science
Erosion, eruption and us
And we're walking
Palms are sweating
Our hands let go
Keep on talking
Self-conscious, but it's not gonna show
Wade in the water on your own
Don't wanna go home
Leave clothes and shoes on the ground
Don't make a sound
Don't make a sound
Don't make a sound
The song "Galapagos" by Kakkmaddafakka is a beautifully crafted piece that describes a leisurely walk in the countryside, with the singer and someone they're with taking part in a few activities as they make their way around. The car is parked in the shade of the trees, and they even make an attempt to climb one, suggesting a sense of carefreeness and adventure in the moment. As they make their way through the area, a woman and her dog look away, and the singer nods at the locals, quickly understanding that they won't be staying in one place for long.
The lyrics then shift to discussing The Galapagos, a region that is known for its stunning natural beauty and the incredible diversity of its wildlife. The singer and their companion discuss everything from natural science to erosion, eruption and more. As they continue walking, their palms begin to sweat, and they let go of each other's hands, but they keep on talking. There is a sense of self-consciousness, but it's not going to show, which adds to the overall mood of the song.
The final part of the song is quite profound, with the singer urging the listener to wade in the water on their own and not to go home. They even suggest leaving clothes and shoes on the ground, as they are immaterial and unimportant in this moment. It's as if the song is urging the audience to let go of their inhibitions and embrace the moment, enjoying what nature has to offer without any restrictions or barriers.

+Kakkmaddafakka Apparently others did get it right, so it's my English that's at fault here! The meaning of the lyrics and even the theme of the song as a whole changed a bit however due to my misinterpretation haha! I'm now torn between whether yours is better or mine! Although I wouldn't dare to question Kakk Almighty ;)
Regardless, I agree that that particular line is among the best ones you guys've written!
