The band was formed by brothers Axel and Pål Vindenes, together with school friends Jonas Nielsen and Stian Sævig. All classically trained musicians, the band was formed to play a one-off show at a local youth centre, Ungdomshuset 1880, but after positive response the band continued to play many live shows around Norway. In 2006, the band made their first recording and released the EP Already Your Favourite EP which was produced by Matias Tellez and featured the track "OOO".
Kakkmaddafakka released its first LP Down to Earth on 24 September 2007, which reached number twenty on the VG Topp30 Album list and brought the band nationwide attention in their native Norway, despite a largely negative critical response.
Kakkmaddafakka has performed at numerous festivals including Iceland Airwaves, Montreux Jazz Festival, NXNE, CMJ Music Marathon, Southside Festival, Hurricane Festival, Eurosonic Festival, by:Larm, Area 4 Hove and Melt! Festival in Germany, where they were introduced on stage by prominent Bergen musician and friend Erlend Øye.
In 2008, Kakkmaddafakka was nominated as Best Norwegian Act in the MTV Europe Music Awards, along with Madcon, Ida Maria, Karpe Diem and eventual winners Erik og Kriss.
On 25 February 2011, Kakkmaddafakka released their second album Hest. The album was produced by Erlend Øye and released on the label Bubbles. The first single taken from the album was "Restless".
On 28 June 2013, the band released their third album Six Months Is a Long Time. It was again produced by Erlend Øye and released on Universal Music Germany, featuring the singles "Someone New", "Young", and "Forever Alone".
In early 2014, pianist and founder member Jonas Nielsen left the band and was replaced by Sebastian Emin Kittelsen.
The band released their fourth album titled KMF on 18 March 2016.
In 2017, guitarist and singer Pål Vindenes started a parallel solo project under the name Pish. 2017 also brought on their fifth album, Hus.

or your magazine, or your fancy blog
You wanna hook me up? Well I don't need no hook up.
(This is a major opportunity)
Well, I take my chances
I am my owe man, I got my own band
And I even got some money
So get me right, don't get me wrong.
You keep telling me what I should do,
Feels like it's me helping you
So my answer is no
I said no, I said no
You keep telling me what I should do,
but I don't think that you're cool
So my answer is no
I said no, I said no
(Hey, can I sit down here for two minutes)
I used to be a Yes-man, but no I'm a No-man
And no man, it's not cool if you sit there,
screamin' in my ear in that taken chair
It's supposed to be a pretty lady sitting there
I can't help to feel you have a hidden agenda
Boy you're a poser
Boy, you're a pretender.
Boy, you should surrender.
I didn't come here for a job interview. Screw you!
(The work is done, the day is over)
I didn't come here for a job interview. Screw you!
I don't have to prove anything to you or your bitch boss,
or your magazine, or your fancy blog
You wanna hook me up? Well I don't need no hook up.
I don't need no hook up. Yo, I don't need no hook up!
You keep telling me what I should do
Feels like it's me helping you
So my answer is no
I said no, I said no
The lyrics of the song “No Song” by Kakkmaddafakka are a declaration of independence and refusal to conform to what others expect from the band. The first stanza talks about the band’s disinterest in proving anything to anyone, whether it be a magazine or a fancy blog, as they believe they have their own sound and have even made some money. The chorus of the song reiterates this sentiment, where the band repeatedly says no to those who give them advice, telling them what they should do, and trying to hook them up.
The second stanza has the lead singer declaring that he used to be a ‘Yes-man’ but now believes in saying no to things that don’t appeal to him. He expresses his annoyance with someone who is screaming in his ear and sitting in a taken chair, telling him what he should do. The lead singer accuses this person of having a hidden agenda, being a poser, and a pretender. He then declares that he did not come for a job interview and consequently tells them to “screw you.”
Overall, the song is an expression of defiance, with the band rejecting any attempts by others to influence or control their actions.

I didn't come here for a job interview. Screw you!
I may have been a pushover before, but now I'm not afraid to say no. It's unpleasant having you sitting there, yelling in my ear, especially since a woman should have been occupying that seat. I can't help but feel like you're up to something suspicious. You're fake and you should let it go. I never intended to be interviewed for a job, so I have no interest in engaging with you. Go away!
I don't need no hook up. Yo, I don't need no hook up!
I already said it once, but just to be clear, I don't require any assistance. None at all.
