1) Kal are the hottest Roma (often called "Gypsy") band from the suburbs of Belgrade, rock’n’roll in attitude, fueled on urban beats and rooted in the Balkan blues. In their wit, imagination and ability to throw disparate sounds together they mark themselves as both part of Balkan Gypsy tradition and 21 st century lifestyle. Kal – the word in Romani for “black” – were formed by the Ristic brothers, Dusan and Dragan, to confront the prejudices and cliches the Roma face. Dragan, a theatre producer who has set up Romani theatre groups in Budapest and Belgrade, and Dusan, a painter; aimed to use Kal to blend influences from traditional Balkan Gypsy Music with the contemporary music thay heard while living in Belgrade and Budapest.

For their firsat international album, Dragan reshaped the band’s line-up and pushed the envelope of what a 21st century Roma roots band can achieve. Recorded on a bare bones budget at Dragan’s ramshackle home studio this brilliant, intuitive album shifts Gypsy soul into cyberspace. To help achieve this mix, Kal employed Mike Nielsen to mix, arrange, find beats and produce the album. Nielsen’s experience involves everything from mixing Dizzy Gillespie’s live sound through working with Maori and Turkish musicians to producing Underworld, Jamiroquai and Natasha Atlas.

Ristic’s vision of how Kal embrace 21st century Roma music is a generous one: bhangra rhythms underpin one song, a violin dances around a two-step rhythm played on double bass, weeping Hawaiian steel guitar drifts over a lovely waltz tempo, an accordion feeds tango flavours, Montenegran rock satirist Rambo Amadeus delivers an acerbic, hiccuping rap whilst the striking voices of Zumrita Jakupovic, Dragana Berakovic and Adil Maksutovic lend earthy, sensual qualities to the songs.

⁠ ⁠⁠ I’d say it was a very close call between Superman and Zod. Keep in mind that Kal El had been on Earth for decades. Zod just needed mere hours to adjust. During the final fight it’s evident that Zod was becoming more powerful as the fight went on.

Superman managed to kill Zod because he gave up, he lost his entire sense of purpose and had nothing to live for. He could’ve killed that family instantly but choose not to, giving Kal El the opportunity to put him out of his misery.

I promise you, if Zod was on Earth for a week before he confronted Kal El, this would’ve been very problematic and it might have been too late to stop him.

A well struck performance by Michael Shannon, Zod truly is one of the greatest villains of all time, that upheld his threat “Watch this world suffer the consequences”.

I love how this is the only movie I've seen in live action capable of transcripting the level of devastation a fight between these characters would be. Even the MCU falls short... The only memorable huge battle was the battle of New York, and even then it was kinda "safe".

This fight was beautiful. I especially love how they made it where at points the camera fails to keep up with the fight (though I know many may dislike that) but I think it greatly adds to how powerful these two beings are, how truly fast they move and the power behind their attacks especially here at 1:14. Once Cal is in free fall after getting thrown, Zod moves so fast it’s just a blur, and all you hear is the power behind the speed of the attack before the camera pans up but at that point Zod already took Cal to Space cause Kryptonians are that fast. Also the scene were Cal rush punches Zod in the air twice before he could recover from the his attacks was freakin amazing.

Brandon Routh's Superman stared a lot and lifted things and for three straight movies Cavill's Superman stared a lot and punched things. That was kind of what was meant to be "interesting" about this Supes, he goes on a journey to become who he's meant to be and isnt sure of himself at first. This was really powerful because life was actually valued in these films, in the new MCU death is laughed upon and joked about like killing doesn't mean anything. This shows how much Superman was holding back the entire fight because he didn't want to kill Zod, he didn't even want to fight him because he ultimately wants peace and he is the only other Kryptonian left and didn't want to lose him despite Zod's desire to kill humans. And when the decision became clear in the end, he made the hard decision to kill him, and that was just something you don't get in movies anymore, is that heart-clenching conflict with morality.

I just wanna point out that Zod could’ve very easily killed that family when he was in that headlock. He was definitely more in control of that situation and wanted to torture Kal, having his heat vision just graze the wall and having it inch that much closer so it didn’t really matter to him that he was restrained, he had a firmer grasp on how his powers worked.

ZOD is a such a great villain character it's astonishing, not just in writing but IN ACTION too.
Love how the whole fight progressively shows off Zod becoming more skilled with his powers, from heat vision to flight to x-ray vision and speed, and beyond (literally)
Makes me realize that part where they reenter Earth was supposed to be suspenseful as if you don't know who's winning, they're equally powerful now.
Also realizing now that Superman was trying to fly away with Zod in the end, but Zod grabbed and pulled him down by kneeling to kill those people. It's hard to tell cuz the shaky cam.
This half of the fight shows how much of a monster Zod can be, and he had to be stopped IMMEDIATELY.

In this fight, even adapting to the environment is very crucial in a battle. Supes is already comfortable on Earth environment that it gave him an advantage over Zod. Yes, Zod was the soldier but Kal knows the extent of his power and he uses it to the best of his knowledge. On the other hand, if Zod spent even one or two months on Earth, I think Supes chance would be very small. Zod is like Superman on roids.

A lot of people are so focused on what they think Superman should be that they ignore what the neck-snapping scene was actually supposed to mean. The entire movie was set up telling how this alien is rejected at every moment of his life and feels like he doesn't belong, no matter how hard he tries to help people. Then, when he actually finds his own people, he is forced to choose between them or the humans, who have done nothing but push him around. Miraculously, he chooses to protect the humans, but at the cost of the Kryptonians' lives. With all the Kryptonians sucked to the Phantom Zone, Zodd is literally the last one of his kind, and yet again, Superman chooses to protect the humans.
The neck-snapping is jarring and it's easy for us to judge Kal based on our preconceptions of what Superman is supposed to be. But if you just take the scene at face value, solely in the context of the movie, you can see why this scene was tragic. Superman screaming, "DON'T DO THIS! STOP! STOP!!" is not a forceful command. He's pleading with Zodd to stop because the last thing Kal-el wants is to kill the only other Kryptonian. People criticize the scream at the end too for being over-dramatic, but if you look at it this way, that scream makes perfect sense. He had to kill the last of his kind for people who never loved him all because of what, morality? That's a tough pill to swallow even for someone who is bulletproof and can fly.

One of the reasons I love Spiderman 2 ( my favorite superhero movie), is the fact that he’s all alone. He gets fired from his job, slipping up in school, his aunt finds out Peter actually killed his uncle, Mary Jane hates him. He literally gives up being Spiderman to have a real life. Then he realizes he has to be Spiderman, no matter the sacrifice. Kal is actually in a worse situation, like you stated. People of earth hate him and want to control him, and the last of his true people, who he’s been searching for his whole life, want to destroy him. It’s heartbreaking. Amazing movie. I think one thing that made Zod such a good villain and what made the final scene stand out so much was that he never looked down on the human race as inferior, one of the last things he says to Superman was “If you love these people so much, you can mourn for them” he called them people. He knew he was getting to end a whole civilization to restart his own, he knew that they were people, just like everyone on Krypton was a person, and still tried to change Earth. Amazing villain and really showed Superman’s humanity In its purest form

It's because General Zod was also once a dear friend of Kal El's father Jor El. Jor El begged Zod to see reason as well, that their world was dying and needed a savior not a warrior and that he just wanted his friend. It is tragic but it also proves an old addage that some warriors are so set in their ways they cannot see the greater good. Kryptonians were like humans once that is why Jor El chose Earth. A people that could grow and advance and become even more advanced and powerful than even Krypton itself once was.

The genuine shock and fear on Supermans face when Zod starts to float is just pure fucking artwork. You can see his eyes start to focus, his jaw nearly drops but he maintains his composure and begins to get really serious.Taking the initiative and just goes straight for Zod without any words spoken. This wasn't just a threat anymore, it was a real do or die danger that needed to be addressed.

The first round starts out with "You're a monster Zod and I'm gonna stop you," then in the second round there are no words to be said. The threat went from a Tornado warning to a full on F5 twister. Clark knew what he had to do from then on. Stop. This. Monster. Now.

This has always been my favorite movie when it comes to super hero movies cause its the only one to show what it looks like between a battle of practically gods or super humans in just regular life without glossing over it like the animated shows and other movies usually do. The amount of destruction cause is so outstanding it makes you appreciate how powerful they are.

The whole zod fight has always been a reference I give when I say this is how it should look like between a battle with powerful beings.

Arguably the best Superman film ever made, certainly my favorite to watch (lots of respect for the old Reeves films) - so many great points and this scene is I think the best 1v1 superhero/villain fight scene made. Well scripted, fight moves around, feels truly epic in nature, effects are great, music is spot-on.

Cavill will be missed as Superman - next man up has big shoes to fill..

And the fact that he had to kill the last living being of Krypton other than himself, too. He lost the only chance he had to really learn what Krypton, it's culture, people, history, and even his own family were like.

He may have chosen humanity, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still feel alone among them. He's still an orphan from an entirely different and unknown PLANET as well as culture, left with very little knowledge of his origins, compared to just about any human adult alive.

Yes, Zod had superior military training, but keep in mind he did not spend the same amount of time that Kal in earth. It took a life to Superman to master his powers and while Zod catch the basics really quickly (as he was the only one of the Kryptonians able to fly) is still not at 100% of his capacity and that's the only reason why he lost.

Its hard not to be a fan of these movies, this one especially. Some of the scenes are truly chilling and emotional. Action shots, all cgi, that do look real and make some actual damn sense. Like superman being thrown like a frisbee, and actually having a trajectory like a frisbee.

In the comics, it is actually said or implied that Zod never manages to beat Superman because of either his limited exposure to the yellow Sun, achieving powers AS Superman but not as developed as his, or ( and this is my personal one) because of his age( in Superman/Batman -Apocalypse, Batman said that Kara metabolizes Sun radiation more efficiently, probably because she is younger than Kal-El), or a combo of both.

@Nemenis facts. What made Zod a good villain is that he was also the hero of his own story in trying to rebuild Krypton. He just wanted his people to survive having the mindset of a soldier as he was born and raised to be one the only way he thought of was destroying earth and building krypton on top of it. We can sympathize with him, we saw his past, and we saw him suffer watching his destroyed home and people. This is the best iteration of Zod in movies.

Superman and Zod's battle goes as as high as a satellite but then somehow fall straight back down into Metropolis and Lois sees them miles away but somehow teleports in the nick of time to see the end of the fight. You have to suspend all kinds of disbelief for this scene 😂
