The lyrics to Kalafina's song "intermezzo" speak of a harlequin with a sorrowful expression in the shadow of light. The singer of the song wanted to watch a play alone, but is now feeling a little lonely during the intermission. In an attempt to cheer herself up, she decides to enjoy some sweet snacks during the intermission of the comedy. The song acknowledges that the story will inevitably end, but the singer doesn't hate playing happy games. The intermission brings tears to her eyes as she bids farewell, and even the chocolate is gone. The beginning of the comedy is signaled by the sweet sound of a waltz.
The lyrics of "intermezzo" paint a picture of a solo night spent watching a play. The singer feels a desire to savor the moment, as though she wants to revel in the beauty of the theater. She acknowledges that the story's end is nearing, which may account for why she is feeling lonely in the first place. She attempts to cheer herself up by enjoying some sweet treats, and the intermission often brings tears to her eyes. While the song doesn't provide a clear storyline, it offers a poetic view of the emotions someone may have while at the theater watching a performance.
