The Black Halo
Kamelot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come wind
Come snow
Come winterland
I have resigned myself to death
Come will to show the hidden hand
So I can draw my final breath
You could take me higher
So you said and I trusted you
I may be a liar, but betrayal lies on you

I can feel where the journey ends
Final call for a last defense

Darkness come tonight
I have no fear of what you hold
Darkness come alive
You are the stories I've been told

I possess the power
Of survival in the cold
Life is like a flower
As it stumbles out of fall

We all know when our time has come
This is where I will linger on

Darkness come tonight
I have no fear of what you hold
Darkness come alive
You are the stories I've been told

Darkness come tonight
Nothing can take my faith away
Darkness come alive
Life turns to black from silver grey

Darkness come tonight
I have no fear of what you hold
Darkness come alive
You are the stories I've been told

Darkness come tonight
Nothing can take my faith away

Darkness come alive
Life turns to black from silver grey

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kamelot's song "The Black Halo" are about accepting death and facing it with courage. The song begins with an invitation to the cold winter landscape, as the singer has resolved himself to death. He is waiting for the moment when his fate will be revealed, so that he can take his final breath. The lyrics suggest that he trusted someone who promised to take him higher, but that trust has been betrayed. He may have lied, but it is the betrayer who is culpable.

The chorus of the song talks about the darkness that is going to come tonight, but the singer is not scared of it. Instead, he is ready to embrace it. The darkness, the unknown fears that he has been told about in stories, are not going to intimidate him. He takes pride in his ability to survive the cold and the hardships of life. Like a flower that stumbles out of fall, he knows that his journey is going to end soon, but he doesn't fear it.

The lyrics of "The Black Halo" could be interpreted in different ways, but the most obvious meaning is that one should not be afraid of death. It is part of life, and everyone has to face it at some point. The song tells us to meet death with dignity, to not let our faith be taken away by the darkness that surrounds us.

And that awesome echo after every line! Epic production too 👍

Yo D.

I discovered the band around 10 years ago, but for some reason I didn't really give them a chance. Which I'm sorry for, I'm now having a blast enjoying them with every fiber of my being!

I discovered them around 10 or 9 years ago as well. Very shortly after Khan left. Bought Karma and enjoyed it, but I was seeing that the Black Halo was getting recommended to me on iTunes and decided to listen to either March of Mephisto or the Haunting. Instantly bought it that very day. Great decision too. To this day, its one of my all time favorite albums.

Same here! I come from a small town, keep in mind even though Kamelot is a well known group for their genre. But I picked up their album Ghost Opera in used condition at a coconuts music store. Never knew anything about them and they didn't scan screen to sample them. So just bought it on instinct, figuring it was some type of rock. Listened to it and wasn't impressed. But months later, while getting carts out in the parking lots at work a co-worker my age, pulled in with the windows down blasting "rule the world". And I thought you know what I will the album another try. They have become one of favorite bands ever since! Also love Roy Khan's work in the band Conception 👍 Sorry for the long msg, but when I read you're comment I had share my story too! Have a good one🎸🎶
