You can not imagine the feels I got coming from years of FFXI to FFXIV 1.0 and arriving at Limsa as my initial city when it launched day 1. It was a most memorable moment for me and this music absolutely blew my mind. Uematsu is so talented and this track seems to combine the best elements FF7/FFXI into one tune. One of my Favorite themes in all of FFXIV, hell this could be the theme for all Final Fantasy. -Dameguy

Two major aspects of this song is that a centerpiece instrument is the sound of a pounding hammer, and most of the remaining instruments sound like that of a military-style marching band, demanding respect - these represent the two biggest aspects of Limsa Lominsa of pride; the Maelstorm military and the blacksmith's guild. The inclusion of the blacksmith's guild's hammer in this song give an excellent feeling of subconscious atmosphere.
The higher-pitched and more gentler instruments give a sense of freshness and freedom - To represent the feeling of being on the sea, the wind upon the rocks and grass of La Noscea, the feeling of wonder being upon both sea and land.
It's glorious, tough, and strong. It's exactly what Limsa Lominsa is supposed to be.

Great summary. This is what makes great music in MMOs, the music isn't just something to listen to. It's the culture of this fictional place expressing itself. Vanilla WoW had many tracks like that as well.

That classic Uematsu music theming of flutes = water at the start. The intro to this track immediately calls to mind the Ship theme from FF1 and Boundless Ocean from FF3. And then it bursts into a track fit for a bustling city.

@@Dwayneff their original idea was to not reboot it but the codes were so bad, that not even Yoshi couldn't fix it. He did his best. Instead he took the risk (which SE could've denied but seeing how the game wasn't doing anything good for them) and him and his whole team decided to remake it. XIV had a very interesting and sad development history. It's a tale worth telling though.

Edit: I do agree on wanting I back though because I've been following for this game since 2009 and I've craved to try it since then, even if they give me a private server just to roam around.

@@Dwayneff Yeah, pretty much. The fundamental architecture of the game was poorly optimized and laggy. There were scripts constantly running that put way too much stress on the servers and most inputs were placed server side meaning that menu interaction had to be loaded from the server instead of being baked into the client that was downloaded by the player. In other words, even the most basic aspects of the game put stress on the servers and caused the player inputs to feel slow and unresponsive.

I chose this city, back in 2010.
I loved this track, it's soooo Final Fantasy-ish.

Many 1.0 tracks get used very commonly these days. I'm hoping they find a fitting scene where they could use on. On Windy Meadows was used in one of EW's prominent cutscenes. I wonder if this would use when the WoL travels to the New World from Limsa.

I remember working on some art, and G4 TV was playing in the background. I wasn't paying attention to what was on, but I heard the beginning of this track, cause it sounded like something Uematsu did, and I freaked out when I saw they were doing XIV LOL. I logged on XI later, telling my LS members about it, they got excited, and it was cool we had all moved over to 1.0, and of course later 2.0 ^_^

When I get home tonight I'm muting the music in game and playing this in Limsa Lominsa. This is wonderful! ARR Limsa is also great for sure. All the music in ARR is fantastic!

This comment is 3-4 years late but...I haven't got the chance to play FFXIV during its 1.0 so I was really surprised how the 1.0 and 2.0 theme was so different in terms of scale and grandeur (sound-wise). I like the 2.0 theme but this theme takes the cake. I hope that FFXIV has this option to change themes between the current one to this one...or even just the Orchestrion roll for this music would be enough.

It's a bit lopsided since 1.0 Limsa's theme was just way better than 1.0 Gridania (very "frolicking in the forest" feel) or 1.0 Ul'dah (mismatched to all hell, since that theme sounded more like fitting for a tropical resort instead of a city in the middle of the desert).

@@budakbaongsiah Come on, you're hugely underestimating Soken, the god-like composer who created Wayward Daughter, Triumph, Dragonsong, To The Edge, The Twinning, Who Brings Shadow and many more. And any of his works are easily on pair with Uematsu.

Huh? The FFXIV official channel listed Uematsu as the sole composer of Dragonsong. The FF Wikia listed Uematsu as the sole composer of Dragonsong. VGMDB listed Uematsu as the sole composer of Dragonsong. Tsutomu Narita arranged the song, Koji Fox wrote the lyrics.

ARR and following up OSTs are good. Soken is good. But that's what happens when you compare a good music composer with a legend.
Hope Uematsu is working on FFXVI with Ito. :)

I like it for the most part, but the hammering sound really bugs me. I get its thematic element with the Blacksmith Guild, but it's not a musical sound at all. Rather jarring in an otherwise good song.
