Paradox
Kansas (2) Lyrics
I'm on fire, burning with the question in my mind
Strange desire, seems there's nothing else for me to find
'Cause I've been here, and I've been there
Seems like I've been everywhere before
I've seen it all a hundred times
Still I think there surely must be more
I've been livin', I had to take my time and change my style
Now I wonder is something gonna make it all worthwhile
I know there's more than meets the eye
Something tells me it's all right,
Only one step closer to the door
There ain't no feelin', feels the same as findin' out the key
Now I'm reelin', thinking of the things that I might see
I'm not afraid to face the light
I'm not afraid to think that I might fall
I was going nowhere fast
I was needing something that would last

Dave Hope is a sorely under-rated bassist. Clean, rhythmic, thumping, musical precision!

never figured that out until the cover band I play in started to learn Portrait.....Bass player stopped us and told us he needed more time to work out the Dave Hope licks......"Man I never knew how good he was".....from a fairly accomplished bassist...
Dary Kinnaman
I think he is great, sometimes he reminds me a little of Chris Squire.

I'll never forget hearing this song for the very first time. Their 2nd or 3rd show of the Point Of Know Return tour in 1977. Few knew this song, yet. I was on the 10th row, front. I still remember looking around the crowd and seeing the faces of those who, like me, were clearly in AWE of what we were all hearing. I want to go back.

One of the features of most prog rock was the incredible level of difficulty in terms of time signatures, syncopation, chord progressions all composed into and around interesting themes lyrically. This song - along with MANY other Kansas songs - is emblematic of this and is why they are one of my all time favorite prog bands.

They put music back into rock and roll!
BluebonnetWhovian
The whole thing is just beautiful, ever note every chord progression.

@Steve W So true Steve. And the vocals were no piece of cake either.

I was almost late to a meeting because I wanted to finish listening to this song.
