1) French rock band
Kaolin is a french rock band, with various musical influences but french lyrics. Their music style can be sometimes quite similar to post-rock and at other times a rageful power pop, always underlined by a fine melodic talent, which protects the band from a hasty and simplistic categorization.
Originating in Montlucon, they remain attached to their native Auvergne region and continue to rehearse in this city. Throughout their young career (2 EPs self-produced and 2 LPs), they were lucky to collaborate with Valentins, Paul Corkett (The Cure, Placebo) and Dave Fridmann (Mogwai, Flaming Lips, Weezer...).
Their new album is mainly sung in french, and contains a song inspired by "I want you" by Bob Dylan called "Partons vite", which is now a hit in France.
2) South African singer
The song "Stranger" is from the South African singer Kaolin Thompson.

De toi de nous sans mobile
Oh mon amour
Laisse moi te dire
Oh mon amour
Seulement le pire
Oh mon amour
Rien ne va plus mon amour
Je m'enfuis et je m'égare
Immobile et sans ton phare
Ramène-moi enfin à l'île
La tout seul debout je grille
Pourtant partir loin de l'île
Serait sans doute plus facile
Oh mon amour
Laisse moi te dire
Oh mon amour
Et te mentir
Que tout va mieux mon amour
Génère enfin tes attraits
Promet moi que l'on se plaît
Ramène-moi enfin à l'île
Là tout seul debout je grille
The song "Loin de l'île" by Kaolin is about leaving an island and a loved one behind, despite the difficulty of doing so. The opening lines express the idea of leaving without a clear reason, wanting to escape from a situation without an apparent motive or purpose. The singer's beloved is begged not to go, as it causes pain and misery to leave behind a partner, especially in such an unusual and ambiguous way.
The second verse describes the feeling of being lost and hopeless without the light that the beloved provides to guide the way. The singer longs to return to the island where he can stand alone, but he is immobilized and incapable of finding his way back. The third verse explains that leaving the island would undoubtedly be easier, but staying and confronting the problems would be more fulfilling. The singer pleads for her affection, promising that everything would be alright and that they would be happy together.
Overall, the song "Loin de l'île" speaks about the struggles of leaving and the pain of deep affection. The lyrics capture the raw emotions of loss, longing, and the difficulty of facing problems.
