She and her brother, Richard, formed the popular 1970s duo Carpenters. This page deals with her solo career which consisted on a single eponymous album which was finally released in 1996.

All of the songs were from the New York solo sessions with producer Phil Ramone in 1979 and 1980.

Carpenter suffered from anorexia nervosa, a little known disease at the time, and eventually died from complications related to the illness at the age of 32, in 1983.

I love this song. It has a different rhythm. Everytime I listen to it, it feels like I'm in Las Vegas. It's a funny sensation. Can't explain it much more than this.

I think this song is so edgy and wonderful. Reminds me of Michael Jackson's OFF THE WALL, which featured the same musicians on her SOLO album. The harmonies are sublime! She was fantastic

Thanks for posting this! I lived during the time period that this album should have been originally released (early 80's), and I heard all the music back then. This album would have kicked ass. Olivia Newton John segued from softer roots to edgier material with much success - and this is hardly edgy even by 80's standards. A track by John Farrar (Newton John's writer) and two from Rod Temperton (MIchael Jackson/Thriller) - Hello?!! There are some great songs on this album.

Let's dispel the rumor that Karen's voice was higher on her solo recordings. True she was not singing in her lower register. But she was not singing in the overly high falsetto voice also. For the most part on these songs Karen was singing in her very comfortable mid range voice. Period.

Richard Carpenter really only produced one style with one singer that was a hit while on the other hand Phil Ramone prodced a multitude of genres that spanned over decades with a countless amount of singers that is almost unmatched in the history of music. Phil Ramone is one of the world's most successful and prolific producers... so very true Phil Ramone is no Richard Carpenter. True Richard Carpenter was very very good at what he did... but Phil Ramone was much much more.

@mrshinyshoes I agree. Olivia gets a lot of respect from me because she was Karen's friend and treated her with kindness and love, but the two are NOT comparable singers. Because some people read that Karen and Olivia compared each other (they both believed that they didn't get enough respect) and a couple of other things, they take that to mean that Karen wanted to sound like ONJ. But she's not on record as having ever said anything of the sort. Karen liked HER voice; she knew she was great.

Found out about this album only today. I find it strange. Why didn't they tweak it more, sonicwise? And make it very much different to the Richard albums? Was making her sing "Let's f**k all afternoon and all night" the change and liberation she needed and enjoyed? Should have been produced by other people altogether, and in another studio.

Su casamiento fue "armado", porque a los 3 meses que le presentaron a Burris, "la casaron", y ese casamiento no duró nada. La familia de Karen no pudo soportar a una hija que era la mejor baterista, cantante y tenía a la novia más exitosa y bella del momento. Quiso ocultar todo. Así terminó la vida de Karen....

@vmuto1 I agree that Karen was much better than Olivia. I don't believe that she was copying Olivia at all; why would she do that. Karen's voice was an instrument which she knew how to play perfectly. Her voice is higher pitched because that's what the song calls for. She's quite a bit deeper on other songs from her album and some of the outtakes ("Midnight," "Last One Singin' The Blues," to name two.) Her album represented her freedom. Richard panned it because he couldn't handle the thought.

Anything that Karen did was great.All of her solo work was in a different vein than she was use to with Rich's exact arragements. She was having fun during this time true. But she was not well in the middle of her battle with Anorexia & her voice was certainly higher at this time. Personally I thought the solo Album was great because it was a different direction.- She just seem to have Olivia Newton John in her mirror & Karen didn't need to she was a much better singer than Olivia in my opinion,

Ugh...the first song I truly ever hated by the Carpenters. The first time I'd heard it I thought it was from the Lovelines CD, and I thought "WHY would they release crap like this?" Then I found out it was from her solo album, and I still couldn't understand why Richard put it on the Lovelines album. I just can't stand this song. It's horrid, IMO.

This is disco, absolutly not the Carpenters...
Karen's voice is not the same that in Carpenters.
The guilty of that is Phil Ramone, interested by money but not by Karen and the Carpenters.
