The Winter Is Back

Dried out of hope and tears
She's grieving over
What was meant to last
Now's crashed into iceberg
Crumbled to the dust
Trapped under ice
She isn't crying
Just because she's weak
But 'cause she has been strong
For too long...
Now she surrenders
Rising tide
Is sweeping
From her heart
All she believed in
Blackened sky
Faith's freezing
Though it's July's end
If she could hear my voice
I'd shout in loudest tones:
Don't be afraid of
Shadows on your path
'Cause they only mean that
Light's still shining in the dark.
Rising tide
Is sweeping
From her heart
All she believed in
Blackened sky
Faith's freezing
Though it's July's end
The Winter Is Back by Kari Amirian is a poignant and reflective song that explores the feelings of someone who has been deeply hurt and is struggling to hold on to their hope and faith in the midst of their pain. The opening verse uses beautiful imagery to describe the person's sense of helplessness and despair, comparing them to a dying tree that has lost all its vitality and is unable to grow or bear fruit. The line "dried out of hope and tears" is particularly powerful, suggesting that the person has been through so much that they no longer have the energy to even cry.
The chorus of the song speaks to the person's sense of resignation and acceptance of their situation. They feel trapped and unable to fight back against the forces that are hurting them, and their faith in themselves and the world around them is waning. The image of a rising tide is also used to great effect here, as it suggests that the person's emotions are overwhelming them like a flood, and they are in danger of being swept away. The line "faith's freezing though it's July's end" is a clever play on words, as it uses the image of the winter season to convey the person's feelings of coldness and isolation, even though it is technically summertime.
The final verse of The Winter Is Back is perhaps the most hopeful, as it suggests that the person is not entirely alone in their struggle. The singer of the song addresses the person directly, telling them not to be afraid of the shadows on their path and reminding them that light still shines even in the darkest times. This line is a powerful reminder that hope and faith can be found even in the midst of great sadness and despair, and that it is often a matter of shifting our focus and perspective in order to see it.
