Bem vinda seja
Nessa tarde que passa mansa
E despreocupada comigo
Morte que cai bem
Vinde em mim agora que sou
despreocupada comigo
Essa tarde dourada que traz
Não me mente mais
Essa tarde que esquenta minha barriga
Por baixo da blusa preta
E meu umbigo envolvido nesse calor
Se faz de morto
Não sente nada
Só vazio.
The lyrics of Karina Buhr's song Bem Vindas invite a deeper contemplation on how we welcome different aspects of life. The song starts with the welcoming of life itself, as "Vida que cai em mim" means "Life that falls upon me" in Portuguese. The tone is warm and inviting, suggesting that life should be received with open arms. The line "Nessa tarde que passa mansa/E despreocupada comigo" adds a sense of ease and carefree attitude, almost as if the singer is enjoying life's little moments without worrying too much.
The second verse of the song shifts the focus to death, which is "bem-vinda" or welcome too. By welcoming death, the singer seems to suggest that we should accept and not fear this natural end to life. The line "Vinde em mim agora que sou despreocupada comigo" implies that by opening ourselves up to death, we could become more at peace with ourselves and the world around us.
The last part of the song talks about a warm afternoon that brings happiness to normal people, but the singer is not feeling at ease. The line "Não me mente mais" suggests that the afternoon is not as idyllic as it seems. The warmth of the afternoon makes the singer's belly warm and envolves the umbilicus with the heat, but even in this moment, the singer feels dead inside, devoid of any emotions. Overall, the song Bem Vinda is a poetic invitation to look at life and death in a different way, to welcome them as natural aspects of existence and to embrace even the unwanted emotions that come with them.
