Greensleeves
Karliene Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Alas, my love, you do me wrong
To cast me off discourteously
For I have loved you well and long
Delighting in your company

Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
And who but my lady Greensleeves

Your vows, you′ve broken like my heart
Oh, why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart remains in captivity

Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
And who but my lady Greensleeves

Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu
To God, I pray to prosper thee
For I am still thy lover true
Come once again and love me

Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
And who but my lady Greensleeves

This familiar masterpiece is comfortable to the ears and the mind

There is something extraordinary in her singing voice .

I just am intoxicated with her splendid song .

I love that almost 500 years have passed and the rumor persists that Henry wrote this for Anne. Great story even if it isn't true. 💚💚

@malcolmstead272

Fact is that it is certainly a Tudor tune.

@Patrick-rc7bm

Why isn't it true! The rumour is that its not. Henry was actually a fine musician and almost certainly dud write the music tho the lyrics were added later.

@HotPinkPussyCat

It was his favorite piece of music! One of Mine too 🎶 🎵
