The pair first gained recognition from their covers of popular Hip-Hop and Pop songs posted on YouTube. After offers from various record companies, the duo signed with Sony and Epic Records in June 2011.
Karmin is a collision of Nick’s Classic Rock upbringing and Jazz education (a trained trombonist) and Amy’s R&B influence and Pop background. Together they found music at its simplest form, percussion and voice.
In 2017, the duo took a break on Karmin to focus on another project known as "Qveen Herby".

I'm wondering if they've had some legal troubles over who owns the rights to some of their music or something. Typically covers are protected under Fair Use. But I'm wondering if after they signed with Epic Records (a subdivision of Sony) there were some shenanigans in their contract along the lines of "all music published before signing must no longer use the name Karmin" or something like that...
I remember when they had their two separate channels karmincovers and karminVevo to separate the signed music vs. their covers ... now they have karmin and karminVevo but they took down some of their originals/covers ... so I wonder if there is some rights battle going on. \shrug
Either way, I'm glad folks grabbed copies of the audio/video of their original acoustic stuff. Nick's cajon playing was part of the reason I started playing one myself. So it was sad to see that sound disappear for a short time.
