The pair first gained recognition from their covers of popular Hip-Hop and Pop songs posted on YouTube. After offers from various record companies, the duo signed with Sony and Epic Records in June 2011.
Karmin is a collision of Nick’s Classic Rock upbringing and Jazz education (a trained trombonist) and Amy’s R&B influence and Pop background. Together they found music at its simplest form, percussion and voice.
In 2017, the duo took a break on Karmin to focus on another project known as "Qveen Herby".

And as it fell, you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me
My hands they were strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true
And the games you'd play, you would always win, always win
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!
When I lay, with you
I could stay there, close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together, nothing is better!
Cause there's a side, to you, that I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true
And the games you'd play, you would always win, always win
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!
I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time!
Sometimes I wake up by the door
That heart you caught must be waiting for ya…
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for ya
I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!
I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died,
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time!
Oh oh oh oh oh…
Let it burn…
The lyrics to Karmin's “Set Fire to the Rain” tell the story of a relationship that is tumultuous and ultimately comes to an end. The singer describes how she fell in love with the person, but also how they were manipulative and dishonest. Despite this, she found herself drawn to them and unable to stay away. The chorus reflects her frustration and anger, as she metaphorically sets fire to the rain, representing the futility of trying to make the relationship work.
The verse about “My hands they were strong, but my knees were far too weak, to stand in your arms without falling to your feet” represents the singer's vulnerability to her partner's manipulation. She acknowledges that they have power over her, but also expresses her desire to find out more about them. However, she soon discovers that the person's words and actions were never truthful, and that they always managed to come out on top. In the end, she chooses to set fire to the rain, representing her letting go of the relationship and the pain it caused.
Overall, “Set Fire to the Rain” is a powerful song about a relationship that didn't work out, and the emotions that come with that. It tells a story of love, loss, and ultimately, letting go.
