The band consists of the members:
Kasper Eistrup (vocals & guitar)
Mads Tunebjerg (bass)
Asger Techau (drums)
Henrik Lindstrand (keyboards & guitar).
Their earlier albums were musically in the vein of Primus and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but with their third full length album their style changed dramatically to be influenced by Jeff Buckley and Radiohead, a style often characterised by newcomers as in the same veins as Coldplay, however Kashmir has in Kasper Eistrup, an original text writer and singer, who can hardly be summarized as anything close to Chris Martin.
To this date, the band have released seven full length albums. Their latest, E.A.R. (2013). With the release of NBP, the band yet again changed direction musically to be inspired by artists such as Sonic Youth and other noise rockers.
It should be noted that there also was a Swiss band with the same name which was active between 1979 and 1982. Consisting of keyboarder Patrice Guenat and singer Henry Dubelly, they produced two albums that range between synthesizer pop and neo-progressive genres.
Another danish band in the 70s was also called Kashmir or more correctly "Jørgen Thomsen & Kashmir", but due to Spotify (Kashmir, Jørgen Thomsen tag) they will scrobble as Kashmir, despite being a backing band at least on the 1972 record they recorded:
Jørgen Thomsen was backed by prominent musicains in "Kashmir": Nils Tuxen (Savage Rose, Flemming Hansen (bass), Ken Gudman at drums and Carl Åge Isaksen on piano.
Kashmir - The Band (Urdu: کشمیر ـ دی بینڈ) is an alternative rock band from Karachi, Pakistan. It is the winning band of Pepsi Battle of the Bands Season 2 in 2017. Bag Of Flash & Thyme
Kashmir Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
puts the heat in the air when you're near
but I will never know whats going on below
skin, bones and hair
I'd fall from a tree for a smile
hit myself and still hurt for a smile
but I will never find the bag of flash and thyme
I dig through the soil and the shields
and the softness of gold turns to steel
I drink too long and wet my tongue
'cause I have done you wrong...dead wrong
I talk to the fish on the floor
see my new found friend never gets bored
my favorite place of all is the closet in the hall
here noone calls
see, I dig through the soil and the shields....
In the lyrics of Kashmir's "Bag of Flash & Thyme," the singer reflects on the complex emotions and experiences that come with being close to someone. The opening lines express a sense of longing and desire, with the singer acknowledging the intense impact that a person's presence can have on them. The imagery of "puts the heat in the air when you're near" evokes a powerful sensation of warmth and intensity that comes from being in proximity to someone special. However, despite this strong connection, there remains a fundamental mystery about what lies beneath the surface of this person - "but I will never know what's going on below skin, bones, and hair."
The lyrics then take a more introspective turn as the singer contemplates the lengths they would go to in order to see a smile on the face of their loved one. The imagery of falling from a tree or hurting oneself for a smile suggests a willingness to endure pain and sacrifice for the sake of another. Despite this dedication, there is a sense of impossibility in finding the elusive "bag of flash and thyme," symbolizing a quest for something intangible and unattainable. The plea to "shine me the stairs" hints at a desire for guidance or clarity in navigating this emotional landscape.
As the song progresses, the imagery shifts to themes of transformation and disillusionment. The act of digging through soil and shields suggests a process of uncovering deeper truths and facing obstacles. The contrast between the "softness of gold" turning to "steel" reflects a harsh reality intruding upon a once idealized perception. The admission of having "done you wrong...dead wrong" hints at regret and the recognition of mistakes made in the relationship.
The song concludes with a surreal image of the singer engaging in conversation with a fish on the floor, symbolizing a sense of isolation and alienation. The mention of a favorite place being the "closet in the hall" where "no one calls" suggests a retreat from the outside world and a longing for solitude. The repetition of the line "see, I dig through the soil and the shields" emphasizes a sense of perseverance in the face of adversity and an ongoing search for deeper meaning and connection. Overall, "Bag of Flash & Thyme" portrays a complex emotional landscape filled with longing, sacrifice, disillusionment, and a yearning for understanding and acceptance.
